Baldur's Tomb!

Well met!

On March 14 (Friday), the Gang of Four
will be gathering at my place to play

Baldur's Tomb!

on the
Baldur's Hourglass map.

This scenario is derived from
Hell or High Water!

Baldur's Tomb!

"At the appointed time, the Island appeared -
just like it says in the Journal!"

"It also says that Baldur is entombed
beneath the giant Hourglass of Light,

and that pieces of the Magic Sword (Mystletainn)
that killed him are on display,

and that they, and the Tomb,

are protected by giant Guardians,
placed there by Odin himself.
"

"Send a shore party. Find out."

"If they are indeed there, bring them back."

"And let nothing or no one stand in your way!"

The Map.

Start Zones are 38 spaces of Sand.

The Perch.

The map contains an Hourglass, 10 Treasure Glyphs (Power side down, no traps, representing pieces of Mystletainn), and 2 Guardians.

Guardians.

Shadow.

5 of the Treasure Glyphs are shown here, and the other 5 are in the same relative positions on the other half of the map.

Another view from the Perch.

Teams.

2 Teams of 2 Players each.750 points, 19 spaces, per Player, using Delta+ pricing, no Marvel. VC units are permitted, with any units not on the Delta+ spreadsheet available at their Classic prices. For the purposes of this scenario, only Unique Heroes (no Uncommon Heroes) may carry Glyphs.

The Tomb.

The Hourglass.

Immediately upon the first
Treasure Glyph being picked up,

the following 2 events occur,
simultaneously:

God of Light.

The Hourglass is turned over. For as long as Sand is running (as it is sometimes balky, set a timer for 30 minutes), the God of Light Special Power (from C3G's Balder) is in effect, i.e., no ranged attacks or Special Powers requiring line of sight are permitted.

Once the Sand has run out (or 30 minutes, whichever comes first),
God of Light
will remain
in effect
until the end of the Round.

See the Power:

Spoiler Alert!

The Guardians.

The Guardians are activated, and remain activated,
for the remainder of the game.

Each Guardian has 2 Life, 4 Move,
1 Range, 8 Attack, 8 Defense, and is a Huge 10.

Prior to activation, the Guardians are invulnerable (cannot be attacked).

After each Turn, each of the Guardians will move towards and Attack the nearest unit (other than the other Guardian), and, if there is more than one eqiui-distant unit, the target unit shall be the one carrying the most Glyphs, or, there being another tie, be determined at random. They will take all leaving engagement swipes.

When a Guardian is destroyed in any manner, it Explodes, and Attacks all units adjacent to it with one 3-dice Attack.

Victory Conditions.

At the end of 10 Rounds,
whichever Team has possession
of the most Glyphs wins.

In the event of a tie, the Team
with the most points remaining wins.

And don't forget . . .

When I fight in Delta+, it just feels right!

Armies?

Well met!

Although the armies I created for Hell or High Water! should work fine in
Baldur's Tomb!, I decided to create new ones for this scenario (as I had a chance to play the old ones already (see Hell or High Water! Battle Report) - especially as Sherman has asked to borrow my Varkanaans, which can now all fit in the expanded Start Zones (19 in Baldur's Tomb! versus 17 in Hell or High Water!). [Sherman's lucky I'm not such a prick as to counter-draft with Cathars, knowing he's fielding the Varkanaans!] I'm also leaving the Marro alone, leaving chas to rebuild his Tul-Bak-Ra army (adding Dividers to, or subbing them in for, Stingers), perhaps throwing in Su-Bak-Ra, Kee-Mo-Shi, etc. What would you field?

God of Light?

Well met!

"Does GOD OF LIGHT only activate the one time per game?" ~ chas

Yes. From the scenario:

Immediately upon the first
Treasure Glyph being picked up, . . .

The Hourglass is turned over. For as long as Sand is running (30 minutes), the God of Light Special Power (from C3G's Balder) is in effect, i.e., no ranged attacks requiring line of sight are permitted.

The "first Treasure Glyph being picked up" can only happen once.

No More Changes - I Promise!

Well met!

From an email from chas:

Now you're cooking with gas! Please don't make any more changes; I've got two armies already. Spend your time making up an army for my game, if you must do something Scapey.

I had to add the Snow to the gates! [I wondered why they wouldn't stand straight.]

And, really, they looked stupid before I fixed them.

It's just that I was loathe to give any additional advantages to flyers.

But this is only a 1 space Perch at the edge of the map, so I guess it's OK.

Anyways, I promise - no more changes.

P.S.: In light of God of Light, I might play:

Spoiler Alert!

My ranged armies I now see as unfeasible:
