Fan Fiction in Valhalla

Posted August 30th, 2006 at 02:22 PM by Hex_Enduction_Hour
What do Heroscape fans do when they're not playing the game or running around hunting down expansions? For some of us, the creative side takes over and we create art or literature based around the characters and realm of Valhalla.

Heroscaper Roabula has started a photo-story titled, Jandar's Hope. Taking photographs of Heroscape figures and terrain as well as some of his own custom terrain, Roabula has created an engaging story of good versus evil, Utgar versus Jandar in the realm of the Kyrie. In a show of good community spirit, Robaula has allowed fellow Heroscaper Ultradoug to enhance the backgrounds of his photos.

Give yourself a moment to read the following tale. It may just influence you to create your interpretation of Valhalla and its warriors of all time.

Grishnakh's Customized Terrain - Part II

Posted August 27th, 2006 at 04:22 PM by Grishnakh

Here's my next entry in my ongoing customized hex tiles thread. Above is one of my finished stream edge water tiles complete with tall reeds/grass. Here's a step-by-step on how it's done:

You will need black, burnt sienna and white acrylic paint, Elmers glue in a squeeze bottle, water, a small paint brush, two colors of rock flocking material, field grass and some Heroscape water hex tiles.

The rock flocking material should be stored in large Ziplock bags. You will need brown and light gray. (Sorry I don't have the numbers for the type I used, I threw away the package a long time ago. The brown should match the burnt sienna paint and the gray is a light gray.)

Note: When I refer to “flocking” throughout this tutorial I will mean the hard rock material,...

Conversations with Craig

Posted August 17th, 2006 at 03:55 PM by Buddy Lee

All right peeps. You fellow 'Scapers and addicts. You want the scoop? You want the poop (Hee, hee. He said "poop")? Well, I'm gonna laydown the lowdown in your part of town. Read on intrepid adventurer.

After all the events were finished on Saturday I decided to roam the Exhibit Hall at Gen Con in my never ending quest to free... wait, scratch that. Anyways, as I wondered around I was magically summoned to the realm of Valhalla (Okay, I walked over to the HeroScape display). It was there that I met with the man, the master, the great designer himself, Mr. Craig VanNess. Let me first say that he is a great guy. A gamer's game designer. I truly believe that he wants to not only design good games, but design them to be played in a manner that will always instill a sense of joy for the players. Ladies and Gentlemen we could not ask for a more dedicated or competent...
