Customs Creation
The Question of Balance
Author: Scytale

In a prior article, I gave an overview of the various aspects of custom design: balance, theme, creativity, and playability. That article spoke briefly about each and how they relate to a unitís role. This is the first in a series of planned articles that take a deeper look at each.

Balance is arguably the most frequently discussed feature of any unit, be it custom or official. A unitís viability, especially in the tournament scene, is dependent on the value it provides compared to its price. Even in less competitive ďfor funĒ games, overpriced or underpriced units can ruin the overall experience. Simply put, balance is an extremely important part of design.

So how does one decide on a unitís point cost? You can find many opinions and guidelines, even formulas,

C3G Interview
Author: LordEsenwienIV & Tornado

Taeblewalker was interviewed back in 2011. It went as follows.

What is your favorite aspect of C3G?

C3G takes the official Marvel game and brings it up to the level of a really fun, professionally produced product with a lot of options and excellent replay value.

What do you like most about being in the map department?

I like bringing my experience, both as an avid comic fan and as a New Yorker, to help shape the geography of the Marvelscape experience.

Do you have a favorite map?

Itís an extremely tough choice, but I like the Well of Souls. It started as more of a simple cemetery map, and turned into something truly phenomenal and eerie.

Marvel or DC?

Map Craft
Start Zones
By: Sir Heroscape

Another installment of Map Craft is coming your way! This time Iím taking you on a journey to the Start Zone, where it all begins.
I just want to say that start zones are not to be taken lightly. Sometimes mapmakers (myself included) will have a map concept, build it and thenóalmost as an afterthoughtótack on the start zones somewhere on each opposite end of the board. Sometimes it works out, but true competitive map building should be held to a higher standard, and start zone placement taken more seriously. Hereís how to do it.
  1. Start building your map outside in. When I say this, I mean that itís a good idea to start with the start zone locations and then work your way into the map design. As you build the map, you may realize the start zones need some adjustment, but beginning a map build with
