Wave D2- Preview #3

Today, we’re going to preview the third pack in the Warriors of Eberron expansion, Ogre and Goblins.

Pack 3: Common Pack
Ogre and Goblins
Includes one Uncommon Ogre Warhulk, one 4-figure squad of Goblin Cutters, and one Treasure Glyph.

Ogre Warhulk:

When we sat down to design the Warhulk we wanted him to be a really basic, dumb Ogre with some fun, thematic powers. The Ogre Warhulk is wild and only focused on smashing things. He doesn’t care who gets in the way, so long as he hits something! Not only that, but this Ogre will do whatever he can to grab treasure quickly so he can horde it. He’s not too focused on the traps, and tends to get caught in them easily. Besides that, he’s just a really strong, really beefy hero to add to your armies and scare your opponents!

Goblin Cutters:

The last Heroscape squad in this pack is one of the most fun squads we've done in a while. We had a lot of ideas for how this squad would work and what specific Goblin characteristics we wanted to give them. In the end we settled on a fun combination of powers that allows you to play them in a bunch of different army builds. They might not last long, but they could cause a lot of havoc before they fall!

Treasure Glyph
The Treasure Glyph included in the Ogre and Goblins pack is the Belt of Giant Strength!

Belt of Giant Strength
This figure may use this belt before rolling attack dice for a normal attack against an adjacent figure. This figure adds 2 additional dice when attacking with a normal attack this turn.

We'll see everyone next week for the fourth and final preview for Wave D2!

Will the skittish goblins become new-age rats?

Orge Warhulk: Warhulk indeed! Same survivability as Krug and equally potent offense! Good thing he's NOT a Beast! Mine! is funny, but never has to come into play. High Life and multi-attacks of 5, this guy is going to be a blast (in kill-em-all matches and as a dungeon monster ).

Goblin Cutters: Some speculation was pretty close on Mob Attack, and I like it! You have to get at least 3 engaged with the target, but -2 Defense is pretty huge (poor Warriors of Ashra, good luck dodging that!). Scurry = fixed Scatter (no hit zones, but less Defense and only triggers on destruction), thank god! Scale...really just could've been Climb x2 like the other small guys.

Belt of Giant Strength: Kinda like the Ring of Protection, just a beefed-up, temporary version of the attack-boosting treasure. Meh.

500 pt (50) Rats vs - 500 pt (40) Cutters - that game would last like 5 hours. But seriously, this adds another aggravating screen that may actually do more damage than Rats, but not last quite as long. If we didn't already have rats, I would not like them, but since we have to deal with screens in the meta game - I'd rather have something new.

Don't care for the Ogre and would never play more than one (reinforces my hate of Uncommons when the Werewolf started to warm me up to them).

Thanks for update truth.

Other than the sculpts, the Goblins may be my favorite thing from all of the DnD stuff. They are just dripping with the right kinda theme for some fun thematic battles.

I like em, the cutters seem like they'd be fun to play and the Ogre seems like a great defender or attacker.

Better than rats

The goblins lose their hit zones once the first one is destroyed by a normal attack. Bring on the special attacks.

I laughed at the Ogre. Doesn't it kinda seem corny to put a '!' in a power.

Thanks for the pics, truth. Not nearly as cool as the WL, but nice nonetheless.
