===========================

This week, new minions join the hordes of evil, and the deadliest knights ever to fight on Earth are summoned to Valhalla!

KNIGHTS OF BLACKGAARD

Not many forces have stood against the legendary Knights of Weston, fewer have matched them in combat. And even fewer than that, indeed only one force, has ever made the valiant knights know fear: the Knights of Blackgaard.

Though slow on the march, when the Knights of Blackgaard enter battle, they surge forward with deadly energy that only grows stronger as the battle heightens. A deadly force in and of themselves, the Knights of Blackgaard are even more relentless in battle when joined by those who share their rage.

Utgar has found an army of men who match his own ferocity, and now Valhalla trembles.

The figures used for this unit are Aasimar Fighter #1 from the D&D War of the Dragon Queen set, Phalanx Soldier #7 from the D&D Unhallowed set, Axe Soldier #4 from the D&D War Drums set, and Royal Guard #28 from the D&D Underdark set.

BLOODBURST THRALL

With the War of Valhalla ever changing, Nicholas Esenwein has learned he must also adapt to stay in the fight. To strengthen his ever growing army of Thralls, he has created a new breed: the Bloodburst Thralls. These enormous abominations move with the horde, feasting upon their enemies with grotesque ferocity much like their master; but unlike Vampires, the Thralls' bodies are not suited to such engorging. It's common to see one of these Thralls rupture and injure nearby opponents after being struck.

CRYPT GUARDIAN

There was once a great queen on Feylund, who was said could kill her enemies with a single glance. On Feylund, she had built an army of loyal minions who would do anything for her, without question or hesitation. One day, she was summoned to a different world to fight different battles, but her army was left behind. Without her minions, this queen was not at her full strength. She was mocked, and forgotten... until the day her general summoned her army for her.

And now, with her army at her command, Queen Sudema will march, and her enemies will fear her gaze once again!

The figure used for this unit is a Pathfinder Battles figure from the Heroes & Monsters set. Its model name and number is Mummy #15.

-------------------------------------------

Next week, we'll show off the last booster of this wave, the Heroes of the Lost Citadel. Valkrill and Vydar get their first Kyrie heroes, while Vydar also boosts his forces with a Chrono-Mage from Arctorus and another Soulborg Major from Alpha Prime!

Good stuff! Bloodburst Thrall is a fun one; always good to see the Thrall army grow. And I like the Blackgaards as a foil to the Knights of Weston... Relentless Army Attack Bonus is a cool take on the 4th's Defense bonus. They're pair well with the Wolves, I think, and Khosumet... maybe even Taelord?

Love the Crypt Guardians, though. Sudema definitely needs the help - such a cool unit that's never really been worth much. Scary to see Braxas get bonding, though - I'm glad Curse of the Mummy is limited to Undead Heroes!

The Knights of Blackgaard are so much more expensive than the KOW and lack bonding. I'm wondering how they stack up head-to-head?

Bloodburst Thralls look like a lot of fun. Splat! We all die together!

The Crypt Guardians look interesting and I'm glad to see units that can give new hope to underused classic creatures like Sudema.

Interesting Figures, here's my take:

Knights: Cool enough indeed, and more relentless stuff is fine by me! They do feel expensive though given the lack of bonding--I can't help but feel that the Knight Cavalry would destroy these guys for the same points…

Thrall: Simple, cool, kaboom. Nice to see more self-sufficient common heroes.

Mummy: Screw Sudema--I'm gonna be doing six times as much Soul Devouring with this guy!

Thanks for all of the contributions to new 'Scape.

120-points seems pretty high for the Knights of Blackgaard though.

It is great to see the Thrall army expand. It has really become an army to fear now!

The mummy is cool as well. More love for Sudema has been needed for a long time.

The Knights are interesting, but I will need to field them in battle to be sure they are worth the cost.
I take it they are played defensively at first and then, when the opponent hit their shield wall, they move into the offence with a possible high initiative.
Interesting...

my take on those :

Knights : I found them super cool until I saw the cost ! But they are a squad of 4 Horned Skull Brute, that's nothing to scoff at, and they have a power to make initiative switch happens at the most crucial moment (the first contact) that can be game changing. I believe it is the type of card that began being cheaper but saw its price up when playtester reported how powerfull it was. (like Arashara)

Thrall : They are the blockers of the thrall army. Their 4 defense coupled with their Rupture power make them good blockers, and their Engorge power make them very good openers on heros for the Preyblood thrall after them. I really like them. While the other thrall are more anti-hero oriented, those ones don't have preferences. Against heroes, they have engorge, against squad they have the same stats as the weston + rupture against melee. Now the thrall army need something to help it against common ranged.

Mummy : I dig it ! Very cool synergies, very thematic ! Of course Sudema is the one that get the most boost, receving a bonding (blocker) and a +2 bonus to her power. Cyprien can get that +2 too, but without bonding, it'll be harder to do. Braxas get a bonding (less powerfull than with greenscale, through, so not overpowered). Very well and carefully chosen synergies !! Well done !

A superb pack !

It looks like Curse of the Mummy Stacks. So it seems a screen of Deathreavers, a back up screen of Mummys and Sudema would be quite the force to deal with for Melee Hero heavy armies.

As for the price of the knight :
In a relentless army, they are basically Horned Skull Brute. HSB are 25 point per figure. That mean that for 4 HSB figure, you have to pay 100 point. But you'll still be limited to moving/attacking with only 3 figure per turn. So obviously, if we want the knight to be in the same level class as the HSB, they need to cost more than 100. Quite more, because having a fourth figure activation per turn is a huge advantage.
At 600 point, you can take 5x Knights of Blackgaard (20 figures) or 8x HSB (24 figures). Despite the 4 figure difference, it is obvious that the Knights will win thanks to their 4th activation per turn.
So one could say that at 120 point, the knights are stronger that the HSB

Another great "pack"!
I had minor sticker shock at first on the Knights' cost, but the 3CV figures have been well costed overall, so I will defer to their better judgment. Hopefully the KoB will be a strong melee backbone for the hordes for Utgar!
I am guessing that that initiative boost is stronger than it might appear at first glance.
For example, if you had 4x KoB and 1 KoB figure is engaged and you have at least one order marker on the KoB (it could even be the "X"), you are adding 16 to your initiative roll, etc. (13 point boost is none are engaged).
Also, the initiative boost is optional, so if for some reason you don't want to win, it would just be left to random chance (actually, you could lower your chance by making sure no KoB are engaged (MUST lower by 3) and then waiving the bonus).
So Blackgaard Surge provides a good amount of influence, if not control, over initiative for much of the game.

HSB aren't really a competitive army though, they are overcosted too.

I second El Diablo's sentiments ... GREAT work. Thank you to the 3CV and SoV and all the other groups who work on customs, maps, etc. They have made Heroscape better and kept it fresh through their efforts!
