Storage Obsession Pt 1: The Terrain

I have this thing for making things fit. When things clearly fit into a category, if I can get it all together in one place, I just have to do it. This compulsion that Elstree and I share led to “The Brick”


Many people have asked for instructions on how to assemble the brick, and I finally put them together. They are available in the Downloads section at this link.


My space has often been limited, and I really wasn't up to going out to the garage to get my Heroscape every time I wanted to play. I just can't bring myself to toss it all loose in a bin when it stacks so nicely. By keeping the terrain compact, we are able to fit more in to smaller spaces. My most impressive feat was this setup:

It is a 16qt Sterilite drawer (out of the frame, and they've changed the style a little) that contains:
1 Rise of the Valkyrie
1 Road to the Forgotten Forest
1 Volcarren Wasteland
1 Thaelenk Tundra
(terrain only, no miniatures)
It is more difficult to get it all in than it is worth, so the Volcarren Wasteland got kicked out.

Later we came across a handy rolling drawer set at a thrift store. This model has been discontinued, which is too bad because the combination of 2 deep drawers and three shallow drawers works very well for Heroscape.

That drawer set holds:
2 Rise of the Valkyrie
1 Marvel
1 Swarm of the Marro
2 Road to the Forgotten Forest
2 Volcarren Wasteland
1 Thaelenk Tundra
2 Ticalla Jungle

This is a very manageable package to take to game days when we don't need to bring our entire collection of terrain. Sadly, the Fortress of the Archkyrie is so bulky that it has to live in a separate drawer (same as the Sterilite above) 2 of them fit into the Sterilite drawer pretty easily. We have the bulk of our terrain in the 16qt Sterilite drawers.
