Welcome Back, Heroscape
WELCOME BACK, HEROSCAPE!
On November 3, 2010, Wizards of the Coast announced the end of the official Heroscape line. Well, today at GenCon, August 3, 2022, Hasbro announced the return of Heroscape! See Hasbro's awesome official announcement, with cool new graphics, right here:
With the incomparable Craig Van Ness at the helm, design work on the new Master Set is well underway. Craig's team has included our own community's dad_scaper, dok, kevindola, skyknight, and xorlof, and Craig himself has been running point.
There is lots that the team members can't discuss right now, but some that it can. For instance, we were told early on that this revival is possible because of you! That's right, the ongoing community support for our beloved game was one of the essential ingredients in the decision to bring it back.
For now, let's just sit tight, and wait for more information, while we pick the brains of the team members for as much information as they is authorized to share.
Welcome back, official 'Scape!!!

At Gen Con was buying Summoner wars from Truth and Grungebob when they told me about Heroscape revival and I barely believed them. They told me prototype was by HeroQuest display and went there and blown away by new stuff. Pulled up this post immediately in front to display and shouted out loud “They got Craig Van Ness involved!” Then I turned around and Craig was standing right behind me! Talked to him and he was so excited. Said they have been working for over a year on this, anyone involved had so sign NDAs to not spill the beans so imagine it was hard on all the people in the community to keep silent. But so glad it’s coming!

Let me reintroduce myself. My name is Steve, aka "Noodles" and I am one of the original members. I was there for the .net site and was there for Rob's famous "Hot Lava Death" comment. I was very active in the community all the way until the end, so 2004 - 2012? I even worked on the Codex and reviewed expansions for the site. I consider Heroscape to be the greatest game ever and I have quite a large collection (13 master sets, 5 castle sets, 9 of all other terrain sets, some custom terrain off ebay, and 3 of every figure pack). This game really made me into the gamer that I am today and I was led to Heroscape by some of Rob and Craig's earlier games, namely Star Wars Epic Duels. However, I do not play very much anymore, although it still takes up an entire closet lol. I've always been amazed that the community continued to thrive all these years after the game stopped, and I've lurked a few times here and there, but with the latest news, I look forward to rejoining the community and being part of the ride that is Heroscape 2.0. I look forward to talking to you all and hopefully reconnecting with some long lost friends. Thanks everyone.

Oh my!
It seems a new school game club is on the horizon... For the last 12 years "scape" has only been a boardgame legend for my new students, just seeing pictures of past school tournaments between 2006 till about 2012. Now they will be around during new product. Amazing! And now my still stupid in size old collection can get even more stupid in size! Bring back the old figure count thread! I am more excited than I was when I got my first masterset in 2004. |

Wow - this is fun news! My name's Logrey - and I haven't logged into the site since 2007 (15 years?!). Ha. But I used to be pretty active. I made a Flash-based design tool called LandSCAPE *way* back in the day (it was pretty useful till better 3D apps came along)
Anyway - just wanted to say hi. Looking forward to reconnecting with the community and playing this great game w/ my 2 year old son. |

All I gotta say is that this is great news!! I have been a member since the beginning but haven’t been around since 2017. Boy does time fly. Heroscape has always been one of my favorites and I’m very excited about its rebirth.

This is awesome to hear! When I heard about the news 8/3 I couldn't think straight I was so excited as I tried to find more information and confirm it wasn't a hoax, and I was useless to my company for 15-20 minutes haha.
Although I hardly posted here, I started Heroscape way back in 2004 as a kid and have kept up ever since. I love Heroscape and rank it as my favorite tabletop game of all time. That being said, here is my half a cent worth: Regarding painting, I personally greatly prefer painted. With two jobs, pursuing a Master's and a bit of a gym bro, I don't have what people might call an overabundance of time. HOWEVER, you make time for those things that you love, and Heroscape is highly up there, so I will make an effort to learn how to paint and hopefully paint well. It's probably not a wise business decision, but it would be awesome if both painted and unpainted figures could be offered. I realize they want to make it more accessible to the general public, which makes sense, but for me personally I am an adult now and ready to spend and help keep Heroscape alive, whereas I couldn't spend when I was a kid A thing also on design. One thing I really liked about the OG Heroscape was that the designs were recognizable but creative. You could recognize the vampires, cowboys, robots, dragons, soldiers, etc. but Heroscape took that lore/legend and made it their own. You could even look at the vast majority of figures and determine whom they followed just by their appearance. Not so much with some of the newer figures. Now I know there will be new generals (darn exciting!!), but it would be nice if there was some consistency with the aesthetic. I'll probably catch flak for this, but I was never a fan of the D&D figures; they just look too...amalgamated, weird...and these new figures, as cool as they are, kind of relfect that aesthetic. The one I did immediately lock onto that was really cool was the leshen-like one (and I chuckled when I saw Sir Heroscape react the same way I did). All in all, this is insane. I never never expected Heroscape to revive, and I am here to support. Awesome time to be alive 'scapers! |

We're back, baby! I just found out about this now and couldn't believe it but it's really real! Easily my favorite board game ever and I had to let my high school buddies know about it since it was a game we played constantly back when new waves were still coming out. Thanks to CVN and the rest of the team for the work in bringing this back - I never thought this day would come and I'm so glad I was wrong!
