Betrayal

Posted January 13th, 2011 at 01:22 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
Something was wrong with the municipal indoor pool last night and so swimming classes were canceled- that doesn’t sound like a good thing but in reality it translated to a sudden Scape night at my house.

My daughter is a life guard now and she hasn’t played with us in a long forever. School is intense and busy and with working now too- it doesn’t leave much time for playing Scape with her silly Dad and brothers. But the pool broke! So we got out the terrain!

We were all very excited to be playing together again- first time since summer 2010. We play a pretty simple game- a two on two with three hundred points per person. My daughter has customed an army of Mirkwood Elves and she said she wanted to take on my younger son’s custom Army of Arc. So the teams ended up being my eldest son and daughter (which almost never happens) and my younger son and me.

We decided the game would be a glyph grab- all our glyphs are treasure glyphs-...

Guilty Acquisitions

Posted January 12th, 2011 at 02:43 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
I have to admit that I have some Scape guilt. I try hard not to but I just can’t seem to jettison it. I guess I’m just one of those people.

I don’t know if was the WOTC End of Scape Announcement, or it’s just a coincidence, but there has been more used Scape popping up here in my City. And I’ve been buying it.

There hasn’t been anything special- mostly just ROTV, SOTM, Castles and a few boosters- all duplicates for us. I’ve been nice- always negotiating a fair price- but I can’t help thinking that I’m hurting the future of Scape by buying up all those Master Sets.

How can a new person become involved if they can’t get a Master Set? Of course why would a person who isn’t involved buy a Master Set? Maybe there should be a Scape library, where people can borrow terrain and hard to get figures...

A few weeks ago I found an ad from a young man who “just doesn’t play with it anymore.” That’s a hard time-...

The Wasabus Winter Collection

Posted January 8th, 2011 at 12:14 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
If the corporation I work for can ever get organized enough to lay me off as they’ve promised, I will be out of work. But I’ve decided to be proactive and start creating my new career right away.

I’m going to be a fashion designer. I’ve sewn for years and I do like nice fabric. But I’m also obsessed with minis and Scape so I’ve decided to combine my obsessions with my good intentions and the result is:

The Wasabus Winter Collection of Designer Attire for Heroscape.

Please note that each of these ensembles is a one-of-a-kind designer custom creation, and that’s why they are priced as such.

Even if you go to the biggest convention or tournament you will never see another figure in the same outfit. You can hold your head high because you will be cutting edge, in fashion, and a little poorer- but looking good is worth the price, isn’t it?

Where is it all going?

Posted January 7th, 2011 at 04:48 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
Unlike Chas, who seems to find wonder and magic and meaning everywhere, I find only questions.

Is it just a case of seeing the glass as half full? I don’t even know how the @#!*&! glass got there...

It’s a new year and I’m getting old- I’m afraid to mention the number. It sounds so “past it.” I can’t even work a camera anymore.

I’m losing my job. The world is full of conflict and the weather seems suddenly vicious. The city where I live is dying. WOTC’s dumping of Scape is just another straw for the camel’s back. (although it already seems better without them)

Two days ago one of my cats ran away. He lived with me for twelve years. We found him in a junkyard when he was about two years old and he was half dead. When we brought him home he couldn’t find the food in the bowl because he’d never eaten out of a bowl before. I’ve never met a more grateful cat.

He’s always been skittish around...

Slaughter in Sherwood

Posted January 5th, 2011 at 04:45 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
Everyone loves Robin Hood, or at least that’s what I thought. I asked a few people I knew but most thought he was a foolish romantic at best and a lazy thieving coward at worst.

I’m very fond of archery, I like forests, I’m partial to green and I value my free time so I’m certain I probably would have joined his band of Merry Men. There is a precedent- I’m pretty sure that in the animated Disney version Little John was a bugbear.

Anyway, did you hear that the average American watches about 30 hours of television a week ? I told that to my kids- we don’t have a TV- and they were shocked. We seem to have no spare time and we can’t imagine devoting even one hour a day to television. We’d have to cut down on games!

I mentioned that because somebody said something about Robin Hood and about an hour and a half later we began to build our Sherwood Forest Scenario. If we’d had a TV, we probably wouldn’t have invented something new....
