TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry 8
FFC #8 - Battle of the Infinite Series
It's very important to keep in mind that everything I say in these FFC's is subject to change, and that said change can happen very easily and without the slightest warning. Especially in this case.
Releasing details of something which is only in the earliest possible stages of conceptualization is inherently a bad idea, due precisely to the chance for it to change. That being said, I'm doing it anyway. Take it with a large grain of salt. You've been warned.
I recently mentioned how I had found the setting for my Dilmir series. I still have that, though it is slightly less stable than when I found it. Anything is possible when I develop the theme: it could solidify and be perfect, or it could fall apart completely. Time will tell.
I also mentioned how I didn't have a setting for TLFF - The Last Fan Fiction. Well... I have it now.
The theme from my last iteration of TLFF - By Any Other Path - was a good one, and actually fit the setting of Valhalla quite well. That's backwards of course, so it's possible things could go south fast (I usually get the setting from the theme, rather than stumbling across a setting which just happens to fit).
At the moment though, things are looking good. The story looks to be centered on a new Valkyrie who finds a wellspring. Unlike all others before her, she swears never to use it to summon beings from other times or places. Her motives will, for the time, remain unmentioned.
Ideas have circulated about having her based in Haukeland, and having several other PoV characters from different armies who eventually join her (Drake has been one of them so far, though there is absolutely no reason for that).
The whole idea is shifting fluidly, and things are liable to change completely day to day. The only solid things are:
I wanted to get your guys' thoughts on this. What do you think of this idea? Does it sound like something which could make a great series? Would you prefer this, or a tale on Feylund, centered on elves, and their struggle against each other with magic and power?
~TGRF.
P.S. With this setting, the name By Any Other Path would remain, as it is virtually perfect. It actually sums up the theme quite nicely.

- New valkyrie.
- Swears to not summon.
- Ensuing war, as she tries to secure the wellsprings and stop the summoning, and the other generals try to secure hers.
- Series focused on the wars.

UPDATE: At the moment, these two infinite series - Dilmir and TLFF - are both more or less in flux. Dilmir's theme has always been a slippery thing, refusing to be defined coherently, but also refusing to be ignored. TLFF's theme is more solid, but the setting is likely to introduce deviants, meaning much tweaking is needed. Currently, it looks like whichever fan fiction finally solidifies first is the one I will be writing. There is also a chance - a slim chance - that Dilmir will go back to novel status. It all depends on if I can ever define the theme correctly.
