This is a neater way of storing my playtests for my customs that I want other people to be able to see. I mostly intend on posting about units that I'd like to submit to the SoV.

6. Eltris with Nilfheim (Plus A Rematch)

Posted December 10th, 2018 at 05:05 PM by Astroking112
Here are two playtest that I completed a while ago with Eltris. The first suffered some pretty bad luck in the first round, so I called a mulligan and ran the match-up again.

New Detroit v2.0 (with two Treasure Glyphs)
Army 1: Nilfheim, Eltris, Nhah Scirh Cultists x2, Krav Maga Agents (500)
Army 2: Ulginesh, Arkmer, Haduc, Kyntela Gwyn, Emirroon, Jorhdawn (500)

Current Version of Unit:
Spoiler Alert!

Game Summary:
Round 1:
Army 1 wins initiative. Nilfheim moves out to grab a TG while Haduc takes a potshot at Eltris (deals 1 wound).
Eltris takes 2 more wounds from Haduc as the Nhah Scirh begin moving into position and Emirroon pulls up Kyntela and Ulginesh.
Nilfheim abandons the glyph, flying towards the Elven pod to try and break it apart before it can finish setting up. Ulginesh and Kyntela each take 1 wound.
Jorhdawn steps up and uses Rain of Flame Special Attack, rolling 3 skulls against Nilfheim. He rolls 3 shields (before the extra die from Eltris), but the Dragon Rider was not so lucky and died.
Nilfheim and Kyntela take Lava Field Damage, killing the latter.

Since Eltris had already been destroyed by the end of the first round, I called the game there and performed a rematch. She fell prey to some poor luck right at the beginning, albeit Army 1 also made a tactical error in moving out Nilfheim and then moving out Cultists before switching back.

This test alone was not very useful. Nilfheim was only attacked once whilst Eltris was still alive, and he blocked the attack on his own. She mostly benefitted him by soaking up a couple of attacks from Haduc that would’ve been targeting him otherwise.

Usefulness of Abilities:
Eltris’ extra defense die was not useful here, either, albeit that may have only been apparent since I separated it from the normal defense rolls. Her extra attack die was never used, since it was found to be more beneficial for Nilfheim to pester multiple Elves with his Special Attack than for him to engage Haduc early on.

She wasn’t even able to serve as an effective meat shield in this instance, since Nilfheim was targeted each time, and she was killed immediately with him by Rider’s Heartbreak.

Additional Comments:
Like the Deathwalker build that she was run against earlier, it was found that Explosion Special Attacks are absolutely devastating to her, since her defense is so low in comparison to the dragon and both are almost always adjacent. It may be useful to try separating them against these builds in the future (since Dragon Rider’s aura has a range of 2), despite the immense drawbacks when it comes to repositioning.

Of course, it is only natural that these attacks counter Eltris quite heavily (and they generally aren’t found on top-tier units, being most notable on the Deathwalkers and Elves in this case), but it’ll be interesting to see just how much Eltris can attempt to play around these Special Attacks.
