Ask Papa-'Scape #3

Posted September 8th, 2008 at 08:37 AM by Revdyer
Hello, boys and girls! I hope you all are having a good time as you go back to school. Be sure to take an apple or a contribution to their 501(k) to your teachers, it will put them in a better mood and that will be good for you and us all.

Since the last episode of Ask Papa-‘Scape was a bit “dark,” I thought I would take the time, rather quickly, to answer some of the other questions that have come into the office here in rain-drenched mid-America.

First comes a question that was posted in the comments of the very first article:

I wonder how much Rep Papa Scape has?? – Grungebob

Dear GB,

I’m not sure how much Rep I have and I’m not sure how I can tell. I asked Revdyer how to tell and he said, “Just count how many green boxes you have showing.” Well, I searched all over the house and found three green boxes, one of them was full of old computer paper with those strips with the holes in them. So I guess I have a Rep...

Ask Papa-'Scape #2

Hello, boys and girls! Welcome to the second edition of Ask Papa-‘Scape. In this episode I will attempt to answer both of the questions that have flooded into Revdyer’s PM mail box.

Here is the first. It is rather long and this, no doubt, reflects the disturbed mental state of the writer. That is quite all right, however. We do not mind crazy writers at all. They are, in fact, the very heart of the HeroScape community. At least our crazy people bathe fairly frequently. Anyway, here’s the letter:

Papa-'Scape,

I need to know if I’m a terrible father or not.

As most ‘scapers know, the paint jobs and finishes on figures can vary from booster to booster.

When I first started purchasing boosters I would look through all the figures and select the ones with the best paint jobs to keep as my own. I would then give the ones with painting flaws or imperfections to my kids.

Once I got my kids hooked on ‘scape,

Ask Papa-'Scape

Hello, boys and girls (please forgive me, girls, for not listing you first, but there seem to be so many more boys here that I thought I had better list them first, and, I used to be one, many, many years ago, myself)!

This is the first installment of a new feature of this blog which Revdyer has so kindly allowed me to use. (Yes, for the literary sleuths out there, he and I are one; but that is neither here nor there when it comes to Papa-'Scape. Oh, and I am not blue in color nor in mood.) The purpose of this blog will be to answer the more subtle etiquette questions concerning HeroScape. We will not be dealing with the more intensive rules questions, which can be posted in the Official Rules and FAQ Section. Here we will be treating the gentler niceties of the game.

I begin, today, with two questions from eager readers (very eager, since they read this before it was even thought of!).

Dear Papa-'Scape. When my friend uses Grimnak to chomp...

A Reminder of What is Valuable

Posted June 13th, 2008 at 09:58 AM by Revdyer

It was sad, disappointing, and sometimes frustrating, yesterday, when this site went down because of the huge demand on the system from the pre-release party.

Yet, sitting through the evening hours and early this morning without HeroScapers.com did serve to remind me of how much I value this site. Some of the things I missed in those few, short, hours:
(1) New information.
(2) Friendly chatter.
(3) Seeing friends.
(4) Seeing great images of the game and figures.
(5) Giving and getting rep.
(6) Meeting or welcoming new people.
(7) Getting PMs and sending replies.

The list could go on and on (but if it did, I'd get a smiley for number 8, right?).

Anyway, thanks to truth, funrun, Xloti, and all the others who worked so hard to restore (and improve) this place for all of us. We missed is while it was down. We'll value it just a little bit more now that it is up and running again.

How to get rep from Rev

Posted May 5th, 2008 at 09:59 AM by Revdyer
I dug up this old thread and thought I'd bump it in the forum and also post it here, for what it's worth in the new setting of getting and giving rep.

As everyone around here knows, I am old. I am also, somewhat old-fashioned... maybe even stodgy... certainly with standards... and if you want my respect on this board, there is the way to get it with your posts.

First and foremost, write in standard English. Your post need not be formal, by any means, but the use of upper and lower case typing, good spelling (knowing that we all make mistakes), and average grammar helps. The better you write, the easier it is for me to understand the good things you have to say.

The rest of these are in no particular order.
  • Be civil, courteous, and kind to the other posters. This does not exclude having fun or even making light-hearted fun.
  • Be able to take a joke. There is a lot of that around here, as there is with any group of good
