Gencon FAQs V. 8.4 (on heroscape.com soon!)

Posted July 25th, 2008 at 12:01 PM by theGuru
Hey Guys,

I just submitted the latest round of FAQs to TPTB and I’m expecting it to be on Heroscape.com in the next 7-10 days.

Since this will be our “Gencon edition” I wanted to discuss some of the updates to make sure everyone making an army for the championships is well aware of any changes! Don't worry, most are minor, nothing huge like Mindshackle this time!

So here we go!
  • Most of the updates for this edition were typo tweaks. Hey, 29 pages, there are bound to be some typo’s! Thanks to our in depth conversation at the Wave 8 release party, I was able to nail down a lot of my… errors. Thanks to those who pointed them out! I'm going to be changing the formatting of the document for the 8.5 edition, so hopefully it'll be less pages. I know this thing is a beast to print out.
  • I added Agent Skahen to the mix. (don’t everyone bombard Heroscape.com yet, it’s not up. Thus neither is my tease for Skahen) J
  • Under Getting started, WINNING. Victory conditions are checked at the end of each turn, after all end of turn abilities are completed. That’s right. Hawthorne can backstab you to a loss if you take a turn with him, kill your opponent’s last figure, then he backstabs you! As a side note, Marcu would NOT cause you to loose as at the completion of his ability, he reverts back to your control.
  • Clealy stated that Flying Characters only get the road/wall walk bonus IF they choose to walk. I can’t believe we didn’t add that in till now.
  • Added the difference between glyphs Symbol or Power side up. This is stated in the rules, but it’s easy to miss.
  • Ladders:
    • Only small or medium single-space figures can use a ladder. If a larger figure has a high enough movement, can that figure count the levels behind the ladder to bypass the ladder?
Yes but normal movement rules still apply. The figure’s height would have to be higher than the top terrain level behind the ladder in order to move over it. Also, a figure would only be able to bypass the ladder if it is unoccupied. Note, small and medium single-space figures must use the ladder if it is there.
  • Marrden Nagrubs Hivelord life bonding. Tor-Kul-Na (and any other hivelord) can munch on a Nagrub to clear the way even if they don’t have any wounds to heal.
  • Double Space figures. Rather than write a whole paragraph about these beasts, I’ll list the new FAQ on their movement (a few other ones were tweaked in minor ways- this was the real big one). Any questions post below in the comments section, and I’ll follow up on them. Basically, the DS movement that I clearly explained in the last FAQ changes, I’ve switched around again. A few of the members of the rules team discussed the need to make the DS movement less… rigid and we all agreed this was more adventageous to a less "rules-lawyery" game.
    • While moving a double-space figure to the next space of it’s movement, can I flip it so it can fit?
Yes. While moving, if a figure cannot fit on a space, feel free to flip it to see if it can fit facing the other direction. If it can fit once flipped, you may move onto that space and continue moving (if applicable). If it cannot fit on the space facing either direction, you cannot move onto that space.
  • DS figures cannot move up from one level (in water) to a second level that has water because they would have to stop because both spaces “occupy” water spaces. Since both spaces are on different levels, it can’t stop there, thus you can’t move there.
  • Last but not least Common Army Cards. We’ve added an errata to clear up using multiple of the same Common Army Card. Most of us play this way, but for those that don’t, this makes it easier, and it also makes it easier for us to write special powers for future units.
    • ERRATA: If your Army includes two or more of the same common Army Card, we suggest using only one common Army Card to represent them. For example, if you’re using three cards worth of Marro Stinger figures (3 figures per card=9 figures on the board), use only 1 Marro Stinger Army Card. Each Order Marker placed on your Marro Stinger Army Card activates any 3 Marro Stingers you control.

So that’s it in a nutshell. Nothing big. But I just wanted to make sure all the Gencon players got a heads up. I’m looking forward to meeting & hanging out with everyone at the con. Make sure to come by Hall F to check out all the tournaments and our Massive Herosape display and demo stations. Tell your friends, it’s gonna be LEGENDARY!

Thanks Chris, and please post plenty of pics of the display. Unfortunately I can't be there in person.

Sorry for the double post, but I did have a question about this:

Does that include lava damage? Say the game is down to two 1 wound figures (one for each side) and it's my turn 3 (my opponent has already taken his turn 3) and I'm on a regular lava hex. If I kill off my opponent does the game end and victory conditions are met (everything dead) or do I still roll for laval damage and possibly have the game with everything dead?

Thank you

Thanks for the clarifications. Even though we can't be there, we're using the maps and the rules here at home.

NYYS, In your example, I would say that the figure is safe. Victory contitions are checked at the end of each turn. Lava damage happens at the end of each ROUND.

Perfect. Others have suggested as much to me as well on this, and it makes sense, I just wanted to hear it from the All Knowing One.

Interesting that you notes that the hivelords can munch on a nagrub (it probably says it in a bio that I don't read) I always envisioned the nagrub morphing into the wound of the hivelord to replace the damaged flesh.

It's good to see this. A lot of these questions have come up with me, and now they're answered. And onacara, nagrubs morphing into the wound... that scares me.
