Guru Introduction

Posted June 5th, 2008 at 04:49 PM by theGuru
Hey All,

I wanted to take a few minutes to introduce myself.

I've been lurking around the different incarnations of heroscapers since way back in the .net days.

Now I do a little less lurking, and a little more Rules Lawyering here and there. You may have seen some of my posts as I attempt to help with the more demanding and in-depth questions.

Some of you have been confused that a relative noob with only 200 posts can come in, weigh in on something, and the admins/high ranking members agree with my rulings right away and consider the case closed. Some of you (most Iím assuming) have caught on.

My name is Chris Dupuis. I used to work at Hasbro in the Customer Service Department. If you called Hasbro with a Heroscape Question, I was probably the person that called you back, or the person you were transferred to. I also wrote all of the FAQs for Heroscape.com. Since Iíve been quiet for so long, I just wanted to say that it was (and is) an absolute pleasure discussing the fine points of the game with all of you. I truly enjoyed explaining the intricacies of the game to each and every person that called and e-mailed. Iíve had the pleasure of meeting many of you, and Iím looking forward to getting to hang out with everyone again at Gencon this year.

As you all know, Heroscape customer service moved to WOTC a while back. A while later, the whole brand did. As with any transition, Itís been a bumpy road but Iím hoping we have all the kinks worked out. Even though the game transferred to WOTC, myself, as well as some other key players have continued on as part of the ďrules teamĒ that you may hear WOTC CS talk about. You can be assured that anything that WOTC CS mentions is from the rules team has been thoroughly discussed by all of us. Weíre working very hard to keep the rules of the game grounded and simple, just like we have been for the past 4 years. Next week, a new batch of FAQs will be posted to Heroscape.com that will encompass Wave 8, and the new Large Hero pack, as well as general tweaks & updates based on conversations around the web, and e-mails sent to me by WOTC CS.

The reason Iím creating this Memoir-style blog entry is because as time progresses, Iím going to be posting blog entries relating to Rules questions. If there is a particularly difficult/in-depth question rolling around the threads, Iíll post a ruling, then from time to time, Iíll also create a blog entry that illustrates all the points/counterpoints to the issue and why the ruling works in the way Iím explaining it to better illustrate the points behind the wording of the powers.

There will be other types of posts as well. For example, I may have a post dedicated to a new figure (maybe Iíll start with the amazing Sir Dupuis!), or an overview on all the changes/updates to the latest FAQs.

Basically, Iím going to use this Blog as an outlet to the community to help educate all players on how best to interpret the figures/rules. My focus will be on the non-hard core players; the ďnewbiesĒ. But there will be plenty of info for those of you that dissect all the figures in the ďBook ofÖĒ threads (which was a great idea BTW)

So basically, I just wanted to finally say Hi to those of you I have not had the pleasure of meeting in person, and that Iíll see everyone around on the boards!

Chris Dupuis

P.S. That pic is totally photoshopped. I donít wave my hands like that. I suspect Rev is behind this scandal.

Holy crap, your Chris Dupuis. I have always known you as Guru. I have actually met you in person, which is pretty cool.
What is Ninja? Craig Van ness. I mean if he put on some weight from the last picture I saw of him, it could happen.[Not sure if this is a Dis or a compliment]

Well just because you wrote the rules, doesn't mean you play them as good as I do. I'll see you at the Beatdown where the Guru is going down!!

You can start shaking from the might of Shades fan now!

I knew he was THE Chris Dupuis for awhile..which made Bistro's comment about Sir Dupuis even funnier to me from the podcast.
It was alot of fun though putting the pieces together. I knew your name was Chris and you lived in/around Rhode Island. And you really have WAY to much knowledge of the game and rules. Plus...When I met you last year at Chaos in the Capitol my son asked where you got your Heroscape shirt and you were like "Um yeah I got it from somewhere but they dont sell them"

I knew he was the Chris Dupuis because his buddies kept up with the "We know something you don't know!" in-jokes until I was annoyed enough to go back and read through all of his posts until I knew it too.

So Chris, does this mean you now have a neat purple username coming?

Sure grateful to have you here and helping with questions, Chris. Since I kinda figured who you were (as rdhight mentions), it was really nice to know that we were getting as close to official answers as there could be w/o an actual FAQ release.

Again, thank you for all your time and effort on behalf of the game and our community. Much appreciated!

Awesome. Glad to have you here.

I'm not going to say that I knew who you were because I honestly did not. I knew something fishy was going on, though, with everybody immediately deferring to you. Very cool.

Despite your mean comment about me and those crazy waving hands of yours, I still love you like a brother, Chris. (Like a brother who owes me a mowing of my lawn.)
