This is simply my blog of my opinions or just other things that come up. If you disagree with me, that is fine, I will not be like "You are wrong and evil and..." You might even be able to sway me. However, if you do something as severe as bash video games, then I will be like "You are wrong and evil and... You <insert curse word>..."

Video Games: an overview

It has come to my attention that people like to blame problems their children or other children have on video games. So, I will fight this and put the best games ever on this one blog post. If I forget one, just tell me.

Start with the good:
x5
Zelda: Ocarina of Time
Requires thinking skills and solving puzzles, all the while you slay evil shrubs and spiders.

Super Smash Brothers Brawl
You can beat the poo out of your friends, all the while using your favorite character from other games. Multiplayer Compatable.

Star Fox 64
While being retro, it is the best Star Fox game so far. Assualt was close, but this is just too good. Plus the storyline is better. Multi player is a little limited. Multiplayer Compatable

Fire Emblem (all of them)
All of the Fire Emblem games are good. They require a lot of thinking and that is what makes it fun. You really get into it and start to debate about who is the most studly with your friends. Multiplayer Compatable (GBA only)

Halo (you pick the number)
I pick this above other 1st person shooters because you don't have to be a super tactician to be good at it. You point, you shoot. I also like the Skirmishes because you can die and it doesn't matter. I sacrifice myself to move the flag 3 feet. I am not that good though, because I am used to having time to think my attack through (Fire Emblem). Multiplayer Compatible
x4 1/2

Goldensun (both)
Really they are both one really long game. It is similiar to Final Fantasy. Really fun with quite a few puzzles. Lots of fighting and you can customize the charaters classes using Djinn. The second one gives you 8 characters instead of 4, but beat the first one first, trust me. Multiplayer Compatable.

Age of Empires 3
This game offers so many civilizations. I love it. I just can't play online. I like this one better just because the civs are more unique. Combine Fire Emblem and Halo, and you get this. A lot of fun to play. Multiplayer Compatible

Rock Band
Offers more to do that Guitar Hero, although the parts are generally easier. Very fun for multiplayer and the making of characters is good. Multiplayer Compatable

Mario Kart: Double Dash
More characters and better tracks than the 64 version. I like the switch characters thing. Multiplayer is fun. Multiplayer Compatable

Super Mario 64
While Galaxy comes extreamly close, I like the 64 better. It's just too classic to pass up. It was always fun to go back and get the 100 coin stars. If only you could be Luigi.

Pokemon Yellow
The original pokemon are among the best Game Boy games available. In the first three, you actually can catch all the pokemon without spending you life on it because there are only 151. (152, missing no.) Also, in yellow, pikachu follows you, which is why it beats red and blue, also better graphics. Multiplayer Compatible

Now for the bad:

Many people, many of which are adults, blame video games for violence and other bad things that children and teens do. I, however, will publicly speak out against this lie. Here is where I stand. I have a parable:

There once were two men, one was named Vick, and the other was the brother of Garet Jaxx. The man named Vick had many good dogs, but he did not raise them right, so they became angry and attacked other dogs. The brother of Garet Jaxx had a Pit Bull-Bull Mastiff mix, which most consider "bad pets". However, this dog was raised right and it loved dogs and children. And so it is in the kingdom of video games.

If parents would limit which games theirs kids play or tell them "hey, you shoot people in this game. That's bad. Don't do that in real life," a lot of problems would be stopped. If a kid who is loved and cared for is happy and plays Halo with his friends, he will not go out and shoot people with a SMG. It is all about the environment the kid grows up in.

What's your opinion?

You win for putting Fire Emblem at the top. Hehe..

And I agree with the "raising the children" theory. Video games is just the best scape goat people can find. The argument has been proven false so many times that it's pointless to use it anymore.

And you summed it up rather nicely with those dogs, there.

Yea video games do not cause damage to people's minds, nor do I say that they desensitize kids any more than anything else. It's the parent's job to make sure the kids know what's right and wrong. I personally find video games to be a great thing to spark imagination, ingenuity, problem solving, as well as hand-eye coordination. I personally have never been desensitized by violent video games even though I play quite a lot of them. One thing to consider however is if the child is already prone to violence and such. In this regard it is similar to how nude art can negatively affect a nymphomaniac or a chronic masturbater (pardon the terms). Any regular person could look at a nude picture and think of it as art, but someone who is prone to sexual thoughts cannot look at the nude picture without some negative, lustful thoughts creeping in. The same is with video games. A person can play Gears of War (a violent video game), and not be affected by it, but a kid who likes to inflict pain on people, is a bully (or something else), perhaps shouldn't play that video game as it could negatively affect them. It's a situational thing.

Good post!

You forgot tons of better games but it's a good blog, either way. Remember, there are more game systems than just the consoles, kids.

Wow, I agree with you on every single one of the "good" (though I haven't played golden sun, so that's not counted.)

Galaxy is awesome, but I too much rather play 64. The gravity element in galaxy is too funky. Twilight princess is a great game, but Ocarina of time is my #1 game of all time. Fire Emblem pwns, 'Nuff said. (I prefer games 1 and 3 over 2 and 4. in this order: 1,3,2,4 though they are all great.)

I've only played multiplayer Halo, and it pwns. That was just #2, not even 3.

(sorry, I can't figure out how to edit blog posts...)

I also agree on your environment thing. I'll use myself, and this jerk I know as an example.

Me: I got the N64 when I was 6, and i played games like marrio, donkey cong, Banjo-Kazooi, and Ocarina of time.

Him: As soon as Xbox came out, he was playing halo everyday for hours. He was like, 8.

Me: My mom took one look at halo, and then at me at 8, and said "It's rated M, you can play it when your older." The same thing went for 'T' games, (I'm allowed to play both now )

Him: His mom saw the game, the 'M', the blood and gore on the box, and decided this would be a fun game. He now has 3 Xboxes (he's affluent) and everyone in his family plays the game. Even his 5 year old brother.

It's all about limitations. I'm not a bad guy, but this kid is now a jerk. It's really up to the parents. we both played video games the same amount, but I played better games.
