March 2011 Louisville Tournament

Updated March 6th, 2011 at 08:45 PM by NecroBlade (*except for the fact that I won, this is a complete fabrication)
Our second monthly tournament of this year was Dragon Wars format, 450 points including a large/huge dragon.

I played "Olde Schoole":
150 Mimring
120 Arrow Gruts x3
120 Krug
050 Swog Rider x2
010 Isamu

Game 1 vs Kaleb on Fulcrum
He borrowed from me:
185 Nilfheim
180 Death Knights of Valkrill x3
075 Dumutef Guard x3
010 Otonashi

He led with Nilfheim, while my OMs went on AGs, naturally. Mimring tied Nilf up while AGs starting raining arrows on his sleeping Knights and Dumutefs, killing a couple of each. Nilf killed Mimring, but by then Krug caught up to him. Krug was half dead by the time he killed Nilfheim, then he and AGs traded with Death Knights until my team emerged victorious.

Result: Win; 1-0

Game 2 vs Arianna on Tree Rock
Her army:
185 Nilfheim
210 Knights of Weston x3
050 Marro Warriors

Nilf came out first again, while my AGs made for the bridge in the middle. Her dragon killed a couple and a Swog, then Krug came over. He defeated Nilfheim for the second time, then crossed a river and started swatting Marro Warriors and Knights. Despite being surrounded by Knights a couple times, Krug lived to finish off the opposing army.

Result: Win; 2-0

Game 3 vs Deroche on Hail and Brimstone
His army:
140 Othkurik
240 Marro Stingers x4
010 Isamu

This was not an army I looked forward to facing, but let me tell you...this jerk did not know how to play. At one point he even insisted on trying his luck at molten lava even though we told him like 3 times it was instant death. He just didn't listen, plus I think he wanted the height it was on. Which was ironic, because he never used the lava feild height. So after I decimated his stupid Stingers, he insisted on trying to Ambush everything with Othkurik, alternating between that and taking a bunch of swipes to set up the next one. Overall I'm glad this army was in the hands of this idiot and I don't feel bad about calling him that, either. Of course, he'll also lie to you about it.

Result: Win; 3-0*

Game 4 vs MegaSilver on Failed Negotiations
His army:
170 Moltenclaw
110 Sharwin Wildborn
090 Brandis Skyhunter
080 Deathreavers x2

He plopped a bunch of Rats plus Sharwin in the middle of the map, so I just tied up Sharwin with Isamu. Moltenclaw immediately headed for and picked up the Healing treasure glyph. Despite this giving me height on him, I couldn't do much damage at first. Eventually, between AG attacks and Mimring's Firelines, I wounded all his heroes but couldn't kill any of them. A lone AG got lucky and finished Sharwin, then Moltenclaw got into a fight with Krug. Krug took some swipes to get there, but hey, it's Krug. Moltenclaw Healed, but eventually went down after a long battle. Krug then cleaned up Brandis and the rest of the Rats. Isamu got hit with some lightning, fire, and Rat attacks, but Vanished all over the place.

Result: Win; 4-0

Game 5 vs jschild on Ruins of Pine Tree Marsh
His army:
150 Mimring
180 Marro Stingers x3
110 Airborne Elite
010 Otonashi

His AE Dropped round 1, but I won Initiative and Mimring was able to roast one while my AGs spread out. I killed two more before he brought out his Mimring to kill mine. Krug grabbed the Healing treasure glyph and used it to survive boosted Stinger attacks. His Mimring eventually went down, and thanks to Krug's spare health he picked off almost all the Stingers. But he did die (the only time all day), though not before bringing enemy numbers down to a reasonable level for the rest of my AGs and Swogs.

Result: Win; 5-0

Let the record also show that the second, third, and fourth place armies (two of which I beat) all played at least Stingers x3.

And with that, I have won all tournaments so far in 2011.

EDIT: Also a couple more notes from various games.

Game 1, I was helping a couple new players next to us learn how to play, so I probably could've played my own game better, but a win's a win (Kaleb was also at his first tournament).

Game 2, she had some bad luck with Ice Shards not able to kill an engaged Arrow Grut (with height), so she lost the other attacks.

Game 3, and this actually happened, Krug took 7 straight wounds from Stinger attacks without rolling a single shield, then proceeded to block every attack for the rest of the game. If it wasn't for the luck swinging back my way at the end, I would've easily lost despite lots of early dead Stingers. I also stupidly put my last Arrow Grut (with all OMs on him) within striking distance of Isamu, who luckily went for Krug instead.

Game 4, it wasn't until Moltenclaw thinned out my team that I was able to finally spread out enough to mitigate his special attack, and Sharwin did fry a Swog, Grut, Swog, Grut in a nasty charred circle.

Game 5, jschild was the only opponent to successfully finish off Krug, who would've died even sooner and probably lost me the game if it wasn't for healing.

I can't wait to write up my battle report. Cheater. :P

And congrats on another win! I think I just threw up in my mouth a little bit...

Edit: Just now saw that. I'm used to asterisk explanations at the bottom. So you cheat and you mishandle asterisks. No wonder your girlfriend wants to leave you.

Hey, there's an explanation up top!

Tommy: No. (OK, so he got the drop on them with Sharwin and killed both plus two AGs in one attack. Rolling 2 out of 3 skulls every time...)

Thanks Jexik! I was happy and slightly surprised to do so well with an "Olde Schoole" army. But man, you **** off Krug and he's hard to stop.
