Custom Ruins

The original Heroscape master set ruins are one of my favorite parts of the entire set. They are useful for just about any game or setting, they have nice detail work and are already painted (unlike most games that offer ruined walls as part of their starter sets).

Most of us on this site have quite a few extra master sets laying around. I had an extra set of ruins and the wooden part of the ruins from a Marvel set and decided to make them a bit more useful.

Basically, I just broke them into smaller pieces to provide me with more layout options when placing ruins on a battlefield.

Hasbro did quite a good job gluing these small ruin kits together (they have glue and snap in tabs) and breaking them apart was TOUGH.

I took a blade to some to score the plastic, but I ended up snapping some in half with my hands out of frustration. I knew I'd be using Apoxie sculpt to fill in gaps and give them texture in the broken parts anyway.

Having straight walls gives you some interesting options for layouts.

Those zombies are always looking for cover to avoid head shots.

I did have to add small legs on the bottom of each section to provide stability, because without the L shape they tip over easily.

This is a small map I converted from a 3 player map I was dismantling to show the ruins in use.

I would not call this project particularly fun, but I know it is one that I will get a lot of use out of.

I can't believe no one else has done this. It's probably one of the most simple customs, but it looks great. Thanks again, Annerios.

Very cool, I've wanted straight walls myself.

Nicely done. My only question is stability. Are the smaller pieces easy to knock over?

EDIT: Yeah, so I should have probably read the whole thing instead of just looking at the pics.

Great job. I don't know why I haven't thought of this (though I don't think I could pull it off anyway, I'm not exactly talented in that department), but anyway, they look great.

I know it's old as hell, but this is quite simple but works amazingly well. Like other responders, I don't know why I didn't think of it before.
