kolakoski's Impressionistic Battle Report

Posted August 12th, 2016 at 12:44 PM by kolakoski

Well met, Gang fans!

I love it when a plan comes together . . .

The Gang of Four met yesterday (8/10/16), and twice played
The Faceless Ones! - Draft Version. A good time was had by all, and thanks once again to chas for once again making his Game Palace a site of joy for everyone (and recording the Draft and Armies lists below).

Before we could begin, the contretemps concerning how to play Malekith and Chameleon within Sherman's Team Rules for this scenario was settled. Sherman convinced me, and the rest of the Gang, that this was possible without any ambiguities. We also decided to play within our usual 10 Round time limit. That being done, we continued the first Snake Draft. After we completed the Draft (for each game), teammates were determined randomly. [Taeblewalker took a few pics with his (late model) phone. You'll be able to actually see something. I'll add them when they hit the Gallery.]

Well met!

If you do don't know me by now . . .

Sunset on the Cliffs Hotel/Resort

At the end of November, we will be taking our annual vacation in Negril, Jamaica. This year, we will be staying (for about four weeks) at the same hotel at which a couple of friends have been staying (their annual stay being for around three months).

Irvin and Addena Sumter-Freitag

Normally, when we're not swimming, walking, running, going out to eat, partying, bar-hopping, etc., we play Jamaican Dominoes. [Actually, we play Dominoes in the midst of many of these activities, as well.]

I've often contemplated taking some Heroscape with me, but thought it would require

The Faceless Ones! - Draft Version

Well met!

The next gathering of the Gang is on August 10th. I will be Hosting, and we will be playing The Faceless Ones! (also below). The drafting for this game will begin, in The New York City Gang Of Four thread, on August 3rd. I will roll to determine draft order, and post it. The Gang will then post their draft picks, one pick at a time (two picks when a Player has two in a row, such as the Player choosing 4th). Teammates will be determined after the draft is complete.

I'm really looking forward to this game. A discussion in
Drafting Strategy?, beginning with post #6 (a copy of the scenario itself), with Tornado and Dysole, implies that this will not be merely a draft by the numbers (not that it would be anyways, given the idiosyncrasies of the various members of the Gang), as the relative values of the various choices

The Fortress of Solitude

War of the Tyrants

General Zod has banished all Earth's Kryptonians to the Phantom Zone, destroyed his Projector, and is seeking to eradicate all data that would enable anyone to build another. Now he demands that all the inhabitants of Earth kneel to him. Who will bend the knee - and who will resist?

The Setup. Two Teams of two Players each for a standard kill-'em-all. A Snake Draft from the 16 Cards (actually 17, as Baron Von Strucker/Hydra Agents count as one pick) (pictured below) will result

The Faceless Ones - A Sherman Davies' Team Game

Posted July 5th, 2016 at 12:07 PM by kolakoski
Updated July 5th, 2016 at 12:35 PM by kolakoski

Well met!

Sherman Davies has created a simple, elegant team format for his Marvel Civil War scenario, in which teammates may place up to two OMs on any Card in their combined armies. This scenario (inspired by the Faceless Ones in Game of Thrones, and my thrift shop terrain find (see below)) adopts that format.

The Faceless Ones

"The Faceless Ones are an abomination - and must be destroyed utterly such that they cease even to be a memory among the people," the new High Sparrow proclaimed. Go! Do your duty! Kill them! Kill them! Kill them!

Setup.
Two Teams of Two Players each for a standard Kill-Them-All. Players may place up to two Order Markers (OMs) on any Card in their combined army.

The Map. The Temple of the Faceless Ones, featuring a central Pool, several Pillars, and the Wall of the Faceless Ones.
