Worriers of Ashra

Posted October 28th, 2015 at 10:51 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus
Scape has all the things I love- miniatures, terrain, customability. Sometimes I find myself thinking about the characters of the figures. Scape has sharply defined them in most cases, which is nice. But I like to expand on things....

I know if you get scooped to Valhalla you kind of live forever. If you die in battle you kind of come back again, or something like that. Or maybe i think of it that way because we use the figures over and over again.

But what if they got old? What if Valhalla didn’t keep them young, or make them die? I was going to say “I must be bored because I’m thinking of Scape characters getting old” but I’m really not bored and this is making me smile. And what could be more important than that?

The warriors of Ashra are a cool unit. It’s pretty hard to hurt them in melee. You can’t even insult them in melee. But what if they got old? I can imagine them sitting in rocking chairs, but they’re not fondly remembering...

X Winging

Posted October 22nd, 2015 at 12:52 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
Scape has its seasons, especially as my family grows older. Now my children spend their spare time looking for jobs or taking extra classes rather than playing with miniature figures. I’m still addicted to minis but we don’t play every day like we used to. Can you believe that we played five or six days a week for five or six years?

So we played a bit of Scape and now not so much. Somehow an X wing game ended up in the living room. Oh, that makes it sound shop-lifted- it wasn’t.

One of the compromises we’ve made as time has passed is that now we play games while we eat supper. It’s nice to have a sit down in chairs family meal but with not enough time to play games we combined the two- it’s not very civilized, I’ll admit. So we have good food and we sit on the living room floor and play whatever we want. Multitasking!

We played the simple game of X wing as the rules suggested before we played the real version. (reminded me of something...)...

Scape Hunting: Magic Arena of the Planeswalkers

Posted October 10th, 2015 at 03:01 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
We were so excited to read about AofP. I was going to say we haven’t been that excited about Scape stuff in years.... but of course there hasn’t been any Scape stuff in years. Fanscape is great, but for us the game is really about new minis and terrain. And wound markers. And dice.

So the prospect of getting new Scape stuff was really exciting. It was a little reminder of how things used to be.

Canada is a great place to live but we don’t get the variety of games or new releases so quickly. I live about 15 minutes from the US border so I really don’t understand how things can’t make it across that imaginary line. I know things get tied up in red tape. We understand that. We don’t cross the border because of some trouble in the past involving a toy hand grenade, but we won’t go into that. Anyway, we were excited and so I went to my LGS to see if they had AofP.

Guess what? Both LGS were closed. Not closed as in we’re at home sleeping...

Snow Rolling

Posted March 4th, 2015 at 02:39 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
Sometimes I do unusual things. I was going to say ‘crazy things”, but I don’t really think of them as crazy. Honestly I don’t even really think they’re unusual. I’m not wired that way- I just think of things and do them and don’t worry about what other people think. Who needs all those categories?

My sweetie pie is game for most things; she’s very good that way. It took me quite a while to discover things she wouldn’t do – not on purpose, just by accident. She really dislikes swimming in water with green slimy stuff on top and she doesn’t like being cold.

My sweetie’s house has a nice deck and a pool and last winter on a bright sunny day I thought it would be a good idea if we all put on our bathing suits and rolled in the snow on the deck. I was able to talk my sweetie into doing it my mentioning that it’s really common in Finland, it’s good for your circulation and didn’t it sound like fun?

I guess she knows me too well- she’ll do...

Snow Scenes

Posted February 19th, 2015 at 03:18 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
We’ve had a record snowfall. In one day we received 37cm (14.5 inches) of the white stuff and it has shut pretty much everything down. I sometimes follow weather predictions so I knew it was coming and was pleasantly prepared. Watching the storm through the window was fun and seeing the neighbourhood transform into an icy white wonderland was amazing. Snow is gorgeous when you don’t have to go out in it. Here are some of the highlights:

Leprechaun Visit
Most people don’t like snow shovelling but for some strange reason I really do. But 37cm is a lot of snow and I was getting tired of shovelling the long driveway out when a remarkable thing happened. A small red farm tractor zipped around the corner, driven by a Leprechaun. Well, he wasn’t exactly a Leprechaun, but he had wild red hair and a crazy red beard and laughing eyes and no hat and he winked at me. And then suddenly he had lowered a back plow and was pulling heaps of snow out of the driveway onto the...
