Scaper of the Week 36 - allskulls
The latest 'Scaper of the Week is another in the long list of custom creators her on the site. I am refering to none other than allskulls. He doesn't post much anymore, but he's been around since the beginning and he has dome some fantastic custom figure work. His niche, of course, is the comic book realm. I was fortunate enough to meet allskulls at the Houston 4x4 Fields of Gore Tournament in May of 2008. He's a great guy, and a fun competitor, and he has tons of comics customs. I present to you, allskulls!
Our 37th Scaper of the Week, Master Comic Creator:
allskulls
Who are you?
-Michael Faciane
Who, or what, is your avatar and how did you come up with your username?
-"AllSkulls" has been a sort of battle cry for me when I roll...yeah all skulls
I created the avatar as my signature...used on some art I've done.
Age:
-34
Occupation?
-Game Developer/Organized Play Developer for Privateer Press
Allegiance and why?
-If you mean general I would say Jandar. He's the good guy after all...but Utgar does have the Death Stalkers. The funnest for me is Einar...monks and samurai are what's up.
When did you get into HeroScape and why?
-It was back in December 06 I believe. Was looking for something for my son that was a bit more simple than Heroclix...found something simpler and a lot better!
Favorite aspect of HeroScape and why?
-Simplicity. The order markers and combat system lends itself to an easy way to create new and dynamic abilities without bogging down the game.
Favorite Hero and why?
-Kaemon Awa. He's a frikkin samurai...with a bow!
Favorite Unique Squad and why?
-Tagawa Samurai. Beasts that are well worth the 120pts. Can play in the front line or clean up.
Favorite Common Squad and why?
-Shaolin Monks. These guys are just fun. You can be sneaky with their stealth leap ability and take out multiple unsuspecting squaddies with ease. Plus, with shaolin assault, the law of diminishing returns is a bit forgiving with these guys.
Favorite Special ability and why?
-Counter Strike. It's not just a samurai thing either
This is just a solid and well designed ability. It's an offensive manuever performed on defense without the need of any clunky extra rolls. This ability really highlights the game's advantage in having a simple combat system. Other awesome abilities do this as well...Deadly Strike/Shot and Maul to name a couple.
Anything you'd change about the game - a unit, rule, or mechanic?
-I would tone down on the d20 abilities a bit. Would also get rid of the basic side of the army cards and use the other side for alternate versions of the squads and heroes. So a common squad will have a side that makes them unique and vice-versa.
Favorite Super Hero (or Villain) custom you've done and why?
-Hmmm...I'd say Wolverine. He was always fun to play and to play against. His passive healing ability made him feel right...like a threat that needs to be dealt with quickly.
Favorite Super Hero Special Ability you'd like to see incorporated into classic 'Scape?
-Well there's the healing factor thing but more so I would like to see symbols take the place of the staple abilities like they did with super strength (which would be awesome if it meant throwing objects).
Marvel or DC?
-Make mine Marvel!
Actually I like both about equally. I grew up reading Marvel but eventually found my way into some of the distinguished competition's library. I would have to say that the best comics have been outside the normal storylines. What Ifs and Elseworlds are the best. The movies are rocking on both sides too (just don't bring up X-3 or SM 3).
What do you enjoy most about Heroscapers.com?
-This interview!
Really, I have met a bunch of great people through this site. The people make it awesome. Now I'm missing the SoCal League.
I did get hooked up with a handful of Scapers up here in Washington too.
Favorite HeroScape moment:
-Been some good ones. I'd have to say that first tourney up at Hextr1p's. Great road trip and great times.
A close second would be the NorCal Trojan horse. That was great. Oh and I can't forget sleeping in Hex_Endunction_Hour's back yard with the trains .
Another board game you enjoy and why?
-Scrappers! (shameless plug)
A few games I've been playing recently is Dominion (great game, simple and mathematically tight), Kingsburg (really fun and quick play), and BSG (been a ahile but always enjoy it...need to play Pegasus).
Looking to get in my first game of Twighlight Emperium. It's supposed to be 5hrs long but some friends just had a 12hr session...I'm scared.
Also looking forward to Summoner Wars!
Three true things and one lie about yourself:
-True: I have rolled "all skulls" on numerous occasions.
True: I like ice cream.
True: I sometimes sing in the shower...or while driving...or at my desk at work out of the blue.
Lie: I am originally from a planet that is no longer in existance and my life's mission is to secure a position of great authority and influence so that I can act as an ambassador for my space wandering people.
Other interests?
-Music. Dancing. Basketball. Art. Martial Arts. Net Flix!
Any Heroscapers member you'd really like to play against?
-I actually wanted to get a game against the Rev and thought that would happen at Gen Con but missed that opportunity. I would also love to have a big Super Hero showdown with all the super customs guys from here.
What message do you have for the community?
-This is a great game...play and have FUN!
Who do you pick for the next 'Scaper of the Week?
-IAmBatman.

Glad to see allskulls get the treatment.
It was fun to meet you at GenCon and try out Scrappers, which I called "Rummy with a conveyor belt." |

I like the idea of having an alternate version of a squad on the flip side of the card instead of basic.

Man, you already said what was the lie! We're supposed to guess. Great interview, and nice choice for the next one. (One day, it will be my turn. )

Great idea to make use of the flipside of the card... That would be awesome!

Yeah, that tourney here ever so long ago was a blast! Lots of good times with lots of good people. Was always really cool to game with you, as well as hang out during the, "after parties." Playing pool with you in that bar was cool... though we won't get into who won. I was distracted by the bartender!

Thanks for the nom, Allskulls! I'm flattered. That Wolverine you did is one of my favorites too. Though you weren't my answer on the survey, you're definitely one of the top Scapers I'd love to Scape with some day.

I'll have to look up that Wolverine point cost when I get home. We'll definitely game one of these days, Bats |
