Did I coin a phrase...?

Posted August 19th, 2010 at 10:15 AM by Dredd Stev
While responding to a post on the front page (a little back and forth between my self and The B.I.V. in the River of Blood release thread) I noticed that a few people have been using the term "DnGer" to refer to some members that insist on insisting that DnD is in fact the end of all things scape. DnG standing for Doom and Gloom and bearing a striking similarity to DnD (or Dungeons and Dragons). The term fits some of the more vocal members of the camp particularly well for thier ability to sniff out any DnD talks and drop a little "the end is NIGH" talk on the conversation (CC comes instantly to mind, but there are others).

After hitting the fourms and a few of my subscibed threads I again saw the phrase used by a few members. I find the propagation of the term particulalry awesome because, as far as I know, I was the first to use it. Now I could definitely be wrong on that, but I do know for sure that I came up with it on my own, even if someone else beat me to it's origination.

The post I made where I use and define it can be found here (post #5):

Classification Crossover: DnD > Heroscape Classic?

So my question to the community (or at least the blog reading part of it) is this: Did I coin the phrase "Doom and Gloomers" (DnG)?

Side Note: I often like to make clear the fact that I have no beef or ill-will for anybody on this site. I'm just (and always have been) a champion of the fact that every single release to date has been a good one and the DnD line is no exception. The term DnGer is not meant to be offensive or as an insult in anyway, just a indication of ones hyper-negativity about the direction of the game under WOTC.

Keep on Scapin'

I like the term, and shall apply it to myself.

Very appropriate! But I think due to the excellence of the latest Waves, many of the DnGers are starting to come around...

Hey man, all I know is that last time the Nigh showed his face around here, Scapers crashed. All I'm saying.

All I know is I like how DnG looks so close to DnD and thought it very funny when you started using it.

So I will mark you down as the master of the abbreviation and respectfully ask permission to use it to make fun of others in a light hearted manner. Or in a nasty manner when it actually involves the game of DnD version 5.0.

Oh by all means, use the term whenever appropriate! Though I must say, by and large the DnG camp has been much less vocal these past few days / week. Maybe the dropping of D2 and the realization of how freaking awesome it is has finally taken hold.

No, I just was never very vocal about it. Also, two CoN games don't leave me much time to gripe about DnD scape.
