Customs Creation - April 2018

Customs Creation
Simply Creative
Author: Scytale

In my previous two articles, I delved into the custom creation aspects of balance and theme. In this article I will address a third aspect: creativity.

“Creativity” as an aspect of unit creation is not nearly as clearly defined as balance or theme. It could mean different things to different people, and even multiple things to some of us. So what is “creativity” and how is it important? First let’s try to define it.

Perhaps the easiest way to come to understand what is creative is by looking at what is not. I think we can all agree that a unit that has the same stats and powers as another unit is lacking in creativity. Simply using a different figure doesn’t add much. This thinking is easily extended: if a custom has the same theme as an existing unit and plays mostly the

C3G Strategy - April 2018

C3G Strategy Guide
Mister Sinister
By: Ronin

Analyzed Statistics

Left Box Breakdown
Species – Mutate (Synergy)
Uniqueness – Unique Hero
Class – Telepath (Synergy)
Personality – Manipulative
Size/Height – Medium 5

Mutate synergies don’t amount to much—effectively, Sinister can be chosen as the Jackal’s Experiment, if you’re really worried about keeping him alive. You most likely won’t want to leverage that unless you’re playing in a pretty high-point arena, though, since there are better ways to maximize Sinister’s value. Telepath synergies can be pretty nice, however—Sinister can get into a couple of factions that way, and there’s lots of overlap between mutant and telepath synergies, which

'Scaper of the Month - April 2018

’Scaper of the Month
Soundwarp SG-1
Author: The Grim Reaper’s Friend

Soundwarp SG-1 was interviewed for ’Scaper of the Month in our final print issue, Codex Volume 2 Issue 9. While we can’t top the great design job done in that interview (all credit goes to Fi Skirata for content, Evar-Scarcarver for art, and El T for layout), we can catch up with Soundwarp SG-1 again, and see what has changed. The questions in this interview will be a bit different than normal, as we bypass some of the generic questions answered in Soundwarp SG-1’s last interview, and ask new ones in their place. We do recommend you read his interview in the above linked Issue 9 first, as we build on some of the questions asked there.

Profile

In your last interview, you gave every indication of not wanting to divulge your name. Any change there?

C3G Strategy - March 2018

C3G Strategy Guide
Baron Zemo (Helmut)
By: Ronin

Analyzed Statistics

Left Box Breakdown
Species – Human (Synergy)
Uniqueness – Unique Hero
Class – Mastermind (Synergy)
Personality – Cunning
Size/Height – Medium 5

A unique hero with a size of medium 5 is basically the default setting for C3G, so, as ever, there’s not too much to talk about there. Being a human comes with some fringe benefits, as does being a mastermind—many of these come in the form of working with figures like civilians, bodyguards, and hired guns. More intriguingly, being a mastermind gives him some interesting army-building possibilities with the Penguin. More on those later.

That said, Helmut is more than a little

’Scaper of the Month
japes
Author: The Grim Reaper’s Friend

The previous ’Scaper of the Month, lonewolf, selected Cavalier as the next candidate. Unfortunately, Cavalier never responded to my invitation. Tornado, our C3G interview contributor, suggested that I interview japes, and the result you see before you. Enjoy!
