Islandscape and the Valhalla Society - Take Two
Well met!
As sometimes happens, while figuring out how to couch the parameters of the question when asking for advice for an army for this event, I created a couple of pretty good armies on my own hook.
185 Nilfeim
140 Phantom Knights x 2 or Theracus + ??? or Brunak + ??
100 Syvarris
80 Raelin
505
or
120 Kaemon
120 Hydra
110 Brunak
80 Raelin
80 Deathreavers or ??
510
Which would you choose?

I like army 2, but feel Raelin might be a waste. Looking at the build and the way I would play it. Charge out rats to start clogging up the board. Keamon rides Brunak out and starts whopping some @$$. Hydra rolls out after Keamon is toast. Really, all rae is doing is babysitting the Hydra until its ready to go play. I say ditch Rae for 2 more squads of rats, or Marro warriors and some Marcu/Isamu filling.
Of course, I could be all wrong and you have a different stratagy. |

How about . . .
120 Kaemon 110 Brunak 80 Deathreavers x 2 310 . . . 200 = Marcus/Romans x 2; Grimnak/Blades x 2; Kozuke/WoA x 2 or 150 Romans x 3 120 Kaemon 120 Mogrimm 110 Brunak 500 or (I really like this one) 140 PKs x 2 130 Tagawa Samurai Archers 120 Kaemon 110 Brunak 500 or 140 PKs x 2 140 Aubriens x 2 120 Hydra 100 Syvarris 500 |

Down to One ArmyWell met!
Unless another brainstorm hits, or something happens and Chas can't/won't lend me the figures, I'm going with the following . . . 140 Phantom Knights x 2 130 Tagawa Samurai Archers x 2 120 Kaemon 110 Brunak 500 Reinforcements: 120, Hydra; 140 Othkurik, 160 Sonlen??? |

Uh-oh, I'd better start planning my own army, so I'll know what is available for others to borrow!

Is Islandscape different from the Main Event with the reinforcement Point totals?
I think you're latest army presents some tough OM choices, and doesn't pack a whole lot of punch. 2 attacks of 4 or 3 attacks of 3 at melee is where your army maxes out. |

Killercactus, the reinforcement schedule is the same, but my first round point total is 500 rather than 510, so 110/130/150 becomes 120/140/160.
To your second point: mitigated by the PKs' extra defense vs normal range, and Brunak. The only way for me to get more "punch" would be with the Hydra and/or Nilf . . . 185 Nilf 120 Hydra 100 Marcus 100 Romans x 2 500 185 Nilf 140 PKs x 2 100 Syvarris 80 Raelin 505, or Hydra/Izumi for Syvarris/Raelin 150 Romans x 3 140 PKs x 2 120 Mogrimm 100 Marcus 510 140 PKs x 2 130 Tag Archers x 2 120 Hydra 120 Kaemon 510 185 Nilf 120 Kaemon or Hydra or Tag Samurai 110 Brunak 80 Raelin 500 120 Kaemon 120 Grimnak 110 Brunak 80 Blades x 2 80 Raelin 510 |

OK - that's what I thought. The problem is the Main Event reinforcement schedule is 90/110/130, not 110/130/150.
Of that bunch, my favorites (unsurprisingly) are the Romans x3 build and the Blades x3/Nilf/Raelin build, as they're the easiest to navigate. However, Nilf/Hydra/Brunak/Raelin is easily the most interesting. I love using Raelin to protect heroes, since heroes have life and thus will receive more benefit from Raelin since your opponent won't be wasting excess skulls on kills. Normally, it's tough to protect Shark/Menacer type units with Raelin, but Brunak really helps out with that. Nilf and the Hydra are really Swiss-Army Knife type units that can excel against heroes or squads, and it has 2 special attacks to deal with Deathreavers, PKs, etc (which is why I like the Hydra over Kaemon here). Again, I think it's going to have some tough OM choices sometimes (managing Nilf and the Hydra at the same time, and trying to mix in Brunak OM's to move Raelin), but I think it could do well in skilled hands. I'm just not a believer in Samurai Archers, especially just 2 squads. I think, against anything with range (they're OK against melee, but not much of a force without Raelin), 4 of them will be dead before they really have a chance to do any damage, and then they're diminished. I might be able to see 4x Samurai Archers + Raelin + something that's a big-time range counter, but I don't know. |

Most Recent LastestKillercactus, yes, the Nilf/Hydra/Brunak/Raelin 4-some would be fun. However, your plea for punch brought me around to this . . .
185 Nilf 140 PKs x 2 100 Kozuke 80 Raelin 505 I had put up this army with Syvarris instead of the Kozuke, but I see now, especially in light of the tiny maps, that Syvarris was a drag on an otherwise, aggressive army. |

AnubiansFor D2, got Anubians, made all-melee army that might work . . .
150 Anubians x 2 140 Phantom Knights x 2 110 NotW 100 Kozuke 500 then again . . . 150 Anubians 130 Tag Archers x 2 120 Kaemon 110 Brunak 510 185 Nilf 150 Anubians x 2 80 Raelin 80 Deathreavers x 2 495 |
