FFC #27 - Moving!

Posted March 28th, 2019 at 01:39 PM by TGRF
Greetings, readers. I wanted to give you an update on where things stand with BaoP.

As some of you might know, I will be moving come April. We're moving out of state, so the packing is currently underway and I don't have much time to devote to my writing. Packing/moving will continue through the end of May. I would imagine it will be July before I am ready to begin work on the development for BaoP. Assuming everything goes according to plan after that, I would venture a guess that you will see the first installment a month or two before the end of the year.

While this move means you'll have to wait awhile for the next fan fiction, it will provide me with lots of time to worldbuild. We're moving one state over, and thus driving. I should have plenty of time stuck in a car, during which I can create and populate the world of BaoP.

This extensive worldbuilding is what I did with Dilmir, and one of the reasons I was so deeply into the world of Feylund,...

FFC #26 - The First Installment

Posted March 12th, 2019 at 02:39 PM by TGRF
Greetings, readers. Despite giving you an update only a few days ago, I want to give you another one, since I few things have changed.

First, I have found a theme for the first installment of BaoP. The first phase of development is complete.

The second phase - characters - has been on hold because there are some things concerning characters which I would like to include in my development. Unfortunately, I currently don't have access to that information, so I've decided to go ahead with the current installment, and work in the new information on character development when I get it. Which should be by the next installment.

This first installment should be much shorter than my normal fan fictions (and I expect subsequent installments to be short as well). The main thing I'll be looking to work on in this installment is trusting the reader, which means less telling what the characters are thinking/feeling, and more showing/implying through actions....

FFC #25 - When your plan is so good it backfires...

TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry 25

Now that HiS is completed, my attention has turned to By Any Other Path. I wanted to give you an update on where I am with my final fan fiction.

As I'm sure most of you know by now, I've been trying to create a passive setting, that is, one which is completely disconnected from the story and tells the theme simply through its very existence.

Well, I've done that with BaoP. The problem is, I didn't realize that if the setting is disconnected from the plot/story, then so is the theme, meaning I have no base to build on. Essentially, I need to create another theme to work with in each individual fan fiction (which I knew would happen, but apparently hadn't thought through).

So that's where I am right now: trying to find a theme for the first installment of BaoP. There are no shortage of themes. But between finding one which I'm sufficiently interested in and keeping the big ones for my novels,...
