C3G X-Men Expansion Set: Rise of the Mutants
Posted March 24th, 2010 at 09:52 AM by truth
The world had seemed pretty quiet since my last mission involving the C3G. The World’s Finest had been a huge hit and even though I was lying low, far away from those boys, I still heard the buzz about the success of the “project”. There was an overwhelming positive reaction from the masses. It was a bold undertaking that finished with a product to be proud of. I can say that.
But fame is like pain, it seems eternal at first, but proves to be fleeting. I knew first hand what pain was like. I’ve felt my fair share and certainly dealt out ten times that. Each one of those C3G members had certainly taken a dose of concentrated beat-down, hand delivered by one doctor Matthew Helm. They knew pain, and thanks to me, they knew that time washes it away. So I was just hoping, for their sake, that they were prepared for the deflation when 9 months of intense work explodes into 2 weeks of rock stardom, only to wilt afterward to eventually become a one line Wikipedia entry.
A knock at the door reminded me that I spent enough time reminiscing about the C3G. It was time to get back to reality. I joined this racket originally because of the apparent marriage of a great game and a fan-boy’s favorite license. Nobody wants to be standing alone at the end of the line. Even the best agents hold out a glimmer of hope that reinforcements will someday arrive. The C3G had filled that void for a while, but what was to come next?
The bell hop handed me a telegram from Mac. The world had not been quiet at all. I couldn’t believe what the message read…
THEY WEREN’T LYING AND THEY NEVER GAVE UP.
STOP.
C3G ARE FOLLOWING THROUGH WITH THEIR PROMISES AND NEED TO BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.
STOP.
REINFORCEMENTS HAVEN’T ARRIVED.
STOP.
THIS IS BIGGER THAN THE FINEST IN THE WORLD.
STOP.
GET READY FOR…
RISE OF THE MUTANTS
By now, I can imagine that most Heroscapers know what the C3G is all about. Hopefully you’ve checked it out at one point or another. But maybe your new to the game, are just learning to comprehend English as a written language, having spent the last few months in a coma, or you’re just a diehard “Valhallanoid” with no interest in Heroscape that doesn’t follow a specific general. Whatever your reason, if you haven’t taken a good look at the C3G product, you really need to.
If you are familiar with the C3G, then you know what you’re in for. The amount of work that goes into the creation, development, and product testing simply blows me away. You don’t even have to spend time behind the scenes watching them work at all hours of the day and night to know how much effort has gone into this. Just print out one of the cards, build one of the maps and battle a game with the C3G figures. You’ll just know right away.
Whether you Marvel-scape, DnD-scape, or mix with classic Valhalla-scape, the C3G cards are no longer “customs”. They are the real deal. I don’t say that as a member of the C3G, but rather as a fan of this set. I wasn’t kidding when I alluded to the fact that I did nothing on the project this time around. But just like the rest of the community, I’m going to enjoy them to the fullest.
Play with these cards. Trust me and play with them. The sharpest minds in superhero customs fought their way through their own fan boy differences and successfully expanded on to what was already the finest group project to date. Rise of the Mutants is the perfect marriage of strategy game euphoria and comic book bliss. Really trust me and play with these cards.
They say that the pen is mightier than the sword. But what of the escalation of war? Is the pen mightier than the gun… the tank… the weapon of mass destruction? Well I would argue that the pen has also joined the arms race and added the keyboard, the internet, and www.heroscapers.com. Working through time and space, from opposite sides of the planet with their desk calendars showing different dates, the C3G continues to produce at the highest level. Congratulations to the creators for a job extremely well done, and congratulations to us fans for getting to reap the rewards of…

Thanks for the great write up, Matt Helm! Even when you're not directly "involved" you're a constant inspiration to us.
If you guys think this set came out fast, stay tuned now that we're doing individual unit releases in Ala Carte! That "Books of the C3G Index" is going to start populating really quickly. |

Great work on the Comic piece there Whitestuff (for some reason I couldn't bring it up on the Wave, the other Iceman photo kept coming up when I wanted to view it, so this is the first time I've seen it). Also great write up Matt Helm, you da' man for sure, very awesome.
Great work team. |

Thanks Matt Helm for the great write up.
Mutants belong in Heroscape. I am so glad that we could help make that happen. |

Wait are these official WotC sets that have real HS bases and will be packaged as a regular heroscape set?

I only play with figures made by Hasbro, WotC, or any company who will buy the game rights in the future.

WotC is not a machine that just pops out games. It is company made up of people who care about the games that they create. |
