"news." Dictionary.com Unabridged (v 1.1). Random House, Inc. 24 Nov. 2008. <Dictionary.com http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/news>.

After a brief break to work on the rigors imposed by academia, this week I aim to see a growing trend in news, both in the reporting and in the reported. Thank you all for commenting, but I would ask that your tone stay civil and your posts logical.

Having grown up with a television set, any kid knows about the "News." Perhaps Mom and Dad watch it at 10pm or wake up to the early mornings, while others keep cable news channels on constantly. Walking

American Version 2.0

Posted November 3rd, 2008 at 06:06 PM by EternalThanos86
American
-
noun
4. a citizen of the United States of America.
-from the Random House Unabridged Dictionary

In honor of my least favorite time every year, election season (often called by the losers "the beginning of Armageddon"), this week will bring the critical eye of the Version 2.0 machine on the traditional American person. One must note the noun, not the adjective, is the item in question.

1776 is a year that for most who have a basic knowledge of history rings a bell for the sheer sake of the liberty being expressed on the North American continent. Never before had such an idealistic group achieved actuality in such a short amount of time. The American Founders sucessfully created a new nation with a relatively new system of government all within a lifetime. They cared for the rights of man (as long as the "man" was literally a white, Protestant man), and promoted the values of liberty above loyalty to a government....

Geek Version 2.0

Posted October 27th, 2008 at 10:05 AM by EternalThanos86
Geek
Slang. –noun
2. a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.)
-from the Random House Unabridged Dictionary

When pop culture began to emerge as an American national icon (c. 1980s), a countercurrent of anti-popularism emerged with it. Some people just didn't care about being popular in school, instead choosing to fit into their secluded groups where a common interest fed friendships more than an actual relationship between people..

How did the "in" crowd view such dissenters? Geeks. They were weirdos who did not fit the social models. They fantasized about the "wrong" things, spent endless hours on "kid games," and talked "nonsense" to other people.

Of course, Geeks is a broad label, ranging from computer geeks to fantasy and sci-fi geeks to just plain ol' weirdo geeks. Star Trek, Dungeons & Dragons, Star...

Version 2.0 Series

Posted October 27th, 2008 at 12:06 AM by EternalThanos86
When given the chance to write to an audience, many people think about how to be funny or inspiring, to get people to like them or (in some cases) to hate them, to attempt to bring the truth into the lights of audience eyes or even to make no sense whatsoever.

I now have a chance to write to an audience, albeit a small one made up of mostly guys (and a few ladies) like myself. Most members have played Heroscape a lot longer than me, have sounder strategy than me, can write or create better than me, and have already earned the respect of this community. So, what's a guy to do? What can I possible add to this community?

The answer is nothing. I cannot add anything. I truly believe that instead, I have been given an opportunity not to add, but to abstact, deduce, synthesize. Simply put, I hope to show what was and what has become. How things are different now from when they started. How something that was started grew and changed into something different, yet maintained...
