Heroscape afterlife strategy Update

Posted June 7th, 2012 at 04:10 PM by NamibianScaper
Shortly after the demise of official hasbroscape, I posted a Heroscape afterlife strategy on this blog.

We got our stuff back from Namibia in May 2011, whoohoo.

I bought up a lot of what I needed except for everything I listed in that post, the expensive stuff. Still sad and I see prices are not going in the right direction.

I did NOT stick to ignoring D&D. Best decision I made. The D&D stuff is great. Rather, I merely have ignored Valkrill. The Undead Zombies and Vampires are already banned from our version of the Heroscape world and we just did away with that whole general. No redeeming figures in the whole thing. Fun to destroy but not fun for anyone to play. That's how I feel anyway.

In addition to buying up cheap figures I needed + D&D stuff, I started getting into customs too. Time is of the essence, but if I have it I'll probably post reviews of the customs we get like I used to do with our monthly releases....

D&D Heroscape is GREAT (Heroscape is back pt 2)

Posted June 19th, 2011 at 09:02 AM by NamibianScaper
Forgive me while I live a couple of years in the past since our 'Scape just came out of a "scape purgatory" stuck on another continent.

We played our first game of 'Scape with a bunch of D&D figures and they are great. No time or desire to go as in depth as I used to about fine details and important issues as sculpt proportions, etc. but I have several comments I will now list out at random.

The new bases are the best. Okay we didn't try any of the new "BIG" round bases but the little petite perfect round bases are the best of the series. I missed whatever the final community verdict was on these, whether good or bad, but I know the initial reaction was to rebel. I can now weigh in and say they are my favorite. They fit so much better and highlight the figure, more like an actual stand which is supposed to go unnoticed, and not a personal flying saucer. The only thing bad is they make me look at the old bases and wish they were also shrunk...

Heroscape is BACK

Posted June 4th, 2011 at 07:12 PM by NamibianScaper
Hello Everybody... GUESS WHAT??? HEROSCAPE IS BACK in our family.

Yes, that's right. This week I got back from our first visit back Namibia and Heroscape came with us. Together with about a dozen shirts and couple other clothes, it weighed about 50 lbs.

May 4th 2009 we suddenly had to leave behind friends, loved ones, a church, a mission, a house, cars, and our favorite game: Heroscape.

June 3rd 2011 we are back.

And I'm STILL looking for an Agent Skahen , or, I mean I'll start looking again.

Also might need a Wolf of Badru and a Grut Orc. I was trying to pack them into my suitcase by squads and I think a couple pieces are missing... friends packed up our entire household belongings into a container in January 2010. Got all my valkyrie dice though.

So where are the cards for the new units people are making? That 9th Elf Wizard better not stink.

Last thing, I need a new username!

Heroscape afterlife strategy

Posted November 6th, 2010 at 03:20 PM by NamibianScaper
The 'death of Heroscape?' announcement is obviously depressing.

This is my strategy which takes into account bank expenses, state of the game, reprints, family, etc.

1. Get my stuff out of hock in Namibia. I can't actually control when this happens but eventually I think I'll get back there and be able to bring it back. Have no idea when. Until then, I am pretty much in 'Scape 'purgatory'.

2. Right now: Quickly buyup any figures I need that are still inexpensive, and actively track prices on the expensive pieces I still need: 3x Armoc Vipers, Marro Drones, MacDirks, & Aubrien Archers, 2x RttFF, 1x Knights of Weston?, Heavy Gruts?, Gladiatrons, Agent Skahen!, & MacDirk. (I can't remember if I had 2 or 3 sets Heavy Gruts and KoW bought but unreleased.)

2. Pretend D&D never existed. This is because of a) cost, b) frustration about undeveloped themes, c) some of the figures don't really seem to fit. I was looking forward to...

New stuff

Posted July 8th, 2010 at 12:52 AM by NamibianScaper
Today marks a year that we suddenly left southern Africa, and 13+ months since we played Heroscape.

I have been keeping up with the new stuff somewhat. Got a few comments.

1. Coolness. D&D has not been bad for HS at all.

2. Power Creep. Not in wave 1 but the new stuff just being announced looks strong. 4/4 is the new 3/3. 6 is the new 4.

3. Screenshots of Shurrak. Let's see how big the fella is next to Jotun and other Huge figures.

4. Huge Figure only army. Got enough big guys with this set to get a fun theme going. Was there a big one in every pack?

5. Still no 9th Elf Wizard. Good. He/she should be from Feylund in good old Classic Scape.

I'm picking up a couple sets as I see them on clearance but not the Master Set yet. I only paid $20-$24 for RotV and SotM. How can I pay $28?? Besides no one to play with. Too busy. Son back in Africa right now. Brother about 1k miles away :\
