The Development of a Custom Character

Posted June 25th, 2008 at 11:22 AM by Finrod
One of my earlier customs was an elf wizard named Gavin Sacrens (anagram for... someone). With the release of Wave 8 and all the new elf wizards, I've been re-working his stats a bit. Here's the card as it stands now:

Then I started on the bio. I already knew from the figure design that he was wearing the skin of an Anubian Wolf, so that gave me a little to go on. At first, I was imagining him as sort of impressive, a warrior who risks himself too much.

But then I started thinking about his powers. I like for personality to flow from powers (and vice versa). Here's a guy whose major power is to enhance other powers. From a personality point of view that makes him either an extremely generous person, or... an arrogant jerk who takes credit for others' successes.

Once I had that figured out, everything flowed together. I may reword parts of this, but I'm...

Sir Dupuis Facts

Posted June 17th, 2008 at 08:27 PM by Finrod

  • Sir Dupuis' true point value is a number so large it cannot be expressed in three-dimensional space.
  • Ne-Gok-Sa tried to mindshackle Sir Dupuis once. The resulting feedback and explosion is why none of the Marro have

Who's this Finrod guy, anyway?

Posted June 17th, 2008 at 05:27 PM by Finrod
I suppose I may as well use this blog feature that I get as a Site Supporter. Maybe someone will read it. Someday.

Hi, everyone. I'm Finrod. I've been playing Heroscape since right around the time Wave One came out. I was on Heroscape.net for a while, got to see it disappear... moved on to heroscapehq.com... got to see it disappear... and then joined Heroscapers.com on the inaugural day. I love this game, and I love it here.

While I enjoy the game itself in all formats - tournament, draft, general-specific, or whatever, I find myself somewhat fascinated by the background story. More specifically, I enjoy reading about the characters themselves and imaging them in this bizarre situation they find themselves in.

So a couple of years ago, I finally wrote my first fiction piece for Heroscape called "Maternal Legacy." It was a short story for a contest we had on the site here. It didn't win, but I got a lot of compliments on it. The story focuses...
