D&D... *sigh*

Posted September 13th, 2010 at 03:59 PM by Kaiyu
If you haven’t seen already, my Evolution of a Hero game is going under huge construction; big enough that it’s becoming two different games.

Hero Origins will remind you of the game it is now but a much simpler version. There will only be two Ranks, probably only 4 levels, and there will be no branching off into different Heroes. The powers and theme of each Hero will come directly from Heroscape with little to no personal creative input.

(New) Evolution of a Hero will be taking what I have now and drastically increasing the content and customization. Players can choose their Hero’s Race. Each Race determines some default stats and abilities and which Classes the Hero can be. Each Class determines the Hero’s base stats and which abilities they can choose from. Each level the player can choose one or more ability to add to their Hero’s arsenal, depending on the cost of the ability. The Class you choose also determines which Class you can change into,...

My Collection is Complete!

Posted September 11th, 2010 at 03:02 AM by Kaiyu
As of Friday September 10 at 5:30pm, I officially own all publicly released figures. I don’t have any Toy’R’Us exclusives or Promo figures, but now have everything from the first master set through wave 10, and all the new D&D expansion sets. I started Heroscape back in 2005 with the master set and was so excited when a new wave was released. The excitement of seeing the new figures on the shelf and the thrill of opening each new booster pack was something I always enjoyed. It was nice to know that even though I bought all of the new sets from an online store, even though I’ve known full well what each figure did and what they looked like before hand from this website, the nostalgic joy was not robbed from me.
All in all though… D&D was rather disappointing The most upsetting revelation was that the Deepwyrm Drow squad is made of 3 different sized figures, and one of them stands about 2 feet taller (by scale) than the other two. The Werewolf Lord is outrageously...

My Vision

Posted September 3rd, 2010 at 11:39 AM by Kaiyu
Some of you have been following my Evolution of a Hero game. You’ve seen its rise from a few humble heroes fighting against the Marro Hive, into a strong army fighting to the death in four different scenarios. You’ve seen the creation of three new game modes, ten new heroes, and a whole new system of items and skills. Now it’s time to shed some light on where you’re going to see it go in the future. Let me paint a scene for you…
On the table in front of you is a castle built from the Fortress of the Archkyrie set. The land in front of the castle extends out to the moat and ends there. Knights and archers stand guard, but you’ve only been given control a small group of knights and one of them is a hero knight in charge of them. You’re given a hand written note that is made to look like the writer was in urgency:

“Help! The forward outpost is under heavy assault. Need assistance at once!”

You move your forces out the castle door and up towards...

An Introduction to Kaiyu

Posted August 25th, 2010 at 04:15 PM by Kaiyu
I found this site early this summer looking for people to share some of my ideas with. I rarely play the classic Heroscape anymore, but instead spend a great deal of time using the game's mechanics to do my bidding. My specialty is in custom modifications of the game, and I've tried my hand at some custom figures as well. My first project I've ever worked on was Heroscape: Fog of War, but it wasn't actually put up on this site until recently.

When people ask me how to play Heroscape, I always answer: "However you want."

If anyone remembers me when I started, I posted a poll asking about making a Heroscape RPG. I didn't realize the stigma that the term RPG brought, because most members immediately thought of dungeon crawl D&D style Heroscape RPGs. Truth be told, I hadn't even heard about the Wizard's of the Coast's D&D dungeon RPG that came out with the master set until after I had already started my work on my Heroscape RPG, now...
