The Curse of Ne-Gok-Sa
By The Grim Reaper’s Friend

The game of CoN (Curse of Ne-Gok-Sa) here on HSers has seen waning numbers of players since the discontinuation of HeroScape. For quite a while now, a small knot of old-timers and new players still interested in the game has been all that remains of the once-glorious CoN community. Until recently. The CoN forum has seen an incredible explosion of new players, eager to join in and bolster the ranks. Interested in how such a feat occurred, I tracked down the individual responsible, scorpiusx.

We sit down in a virtual server, the user control panel mysteriously festooned with expensive Ticalla leaves, and I ask my first question:

C3V Strategy - June 2016

How To Beat
Unit: Quahon
Author: vegietarian18

Quahon is one of the most powerful figures that fanscape has released. The legendary bath toy touts the only special attack of base 4 or more that can target multiple figures in the game. While that is quite a few caveats, it’s the reason she is so good. Most other explosion attackers only throw three dice, which is much harder to roll the critical two skulls on. Mimring can also drop 4 on multiple figures, but he’s limited by the linearity of his ability and how relatively easy it is to dodge. Jorhdawn can Rain of Flame four dice, but you have to build a whole army around that, and she also has to stay close to wizards. That makes it hard for her to push for startzone explosions

’Scaper of the Month: Brandonwiker

Profile:

Who are you really?
Brandon Wiker, male, 5'11", 185 lbs. Live in NY, have faith in Christ, although I don’t call any church “home” at the moment. I am a logical thinker and a gamer, strong with maths (although I haven't done calculus in a while!). Have my associate degree in humanities and social science, and currently attending school for computer network systems administration.

I’m probably what most people would call “boring,” I generally follow the rules and try to be responsible. No drugs, no drinking; I generally keep to myself and the family. I play tennis in the summer with my stepdad and bunch of old retired guys, and I play floor hockey a few months out of the year with some guys from a church in Newfane. I hardly keep up with news, sports,

Designing Top to Bottom
By: johnny139

There’s nothing more intimidating than a blank page. Or, when we’re talking about custom design, a blank card. So for today’s column, I’d like to talk about where you might want to start off: by discussing “top-down” and “bottom-up” design.

Before we begin, I’ll have to invoke the name Mark Rosewater. It’s a name that’s no doubt familiar to designers in the realm of TCGs—the longtime designer for Magic: The Gathering and writer of a weekly column known as “Making Magic.” While he has his fans and detractors in equal measure, with hundreds of articles over the past two decades, the sheer scale of his contribution to game design, as an art and a science, is unrivaled.

Among the design concepts he articulated is the difference between the two premises of set design: top-down and bottom-up. A top-down

Unit Strategy Review
Unit: Horned Skull Brutes
Author: Dysole

The Horned Skull Brutes are the definitive Brute Squad in Heroscape (pun intended). Their beastly stats come packaged with plenty of useful abilities that come in handy for storming the castle or beating a path to allow you to accept your opponent’s surrender. However, despite their brutish appearance,
