Heroscapers @ ComicCon - Final Report

We sent our Comic-Con man of action into the fray and he's brought back the goods.* Doc Savage writes:

I arrived at the Convention Center on Friday July 27. It was crowded. Sold out. Good thing I had my badge already. The whole weekend was a sell out. If you're going to go, get pre-registered!

I had a few hours to kill Friday, so I visited the Hasbro booth first to be sure to get the promo figure. I had Doc Jr's badge with me as well, so I got us both our Aquilla Monks. I was worried that they would be gone quickly on Saturday, and indeed they were.

While there I talked a bit with Will Creech (aka Guilty Mc) and (I think) Julie (aka Sonya Esenwein). All the Hasbro folks are nice and really do seem to love the game.

I had quite a long conversation with Chris Nelson,...

Heroscapers @ ComicCon - Interview

Oogie Da Bruce was at ComicCon this weekend and got a chance to sit down with Heroscape Designer Chris Nelson. Oogie writes:

Upon arriving at the Heroscape Booth I found Chris engaged in combat with none other then our very own Allskulls. I wandered over to get a better look only to watch Chris destroy our resident Scaper. I asked Chris for a moment of his time and he was happy to oblige and the first thing he mentioned was that he couldn’t talk about any of the upcoming figures, stats, releases or speculations of the future.

So I took some time to get to the man behind the Marvel, Chris Nelson.

ODB: Thanks Chris for taking time out for Heroscapers.com. So how is it exactly that you got involved with Heroscape?

CN: Well I’ve been working for Hasbro for 5 years now, 3 ½ as an independent and 1 ½ years officially. I started in Graphic Design...

Heroscapers @ ComicCon - First Pictures

Updated April 14th, 2008 at 03:46 PM by truth
I've got reporters scrambling around Comic-Con today snapping high-quality photos, speaking with game designers, and preparing to report in on all of the Heroscape news.

Yesterday, however, Comic-Con did a preview of its dealer hall and members of our forums were able to get some early pictures. Our information is incomplete at this time, but I hate to have our forums buzzing with info and not announce it here on the front page.

Here are the pictures we have so far:

A flyer introducing Wave 8 of the expansions

A promo figure belonging to a new general - "Aquilla"

Spiders and Jungle Brush

Large Hero expansion figures...

Superhero Customs

The art of custom unit making is nothing new. I was among the first to venture into that world, but since those early days the face of HeroScape has changed, and thus so have custom units. When the game only had one set of boosters to choose from the unlimited potential for more could hardly be contained, and so custom units held a lofty place in the hearts of the early fans. As more and more official product became available there became less and less of a desire for fans to bring variety to the game by way of making their own units.
Custom unit making still has a niche in the community, but it tends to be a gathering of custom unit makers, making the units simply for the joy of the creation process, rather than to fill a desire...
