The Adventures of Chedwick and Sven Comic Blog

Hi there, your neighborhood friendly gamjuven here. I wanted to start this blog to talk about the comics I have been writing for this website and for Heroscape fans everywhere. I also wanted to start it because: 1. I have never had a blog, and 2. I think this would be a good place to perhaps have some feedback and get some insight on what people like.

It isn't much right now, but it includes the 7 comics I have done so far. I plan on reformatting the comics so they appear vertical instead of horizontal. This will make them easier to view on this website (plus Truth asked me if I could do that and I try to follow what the site administrator asks).

Now some backstory on myself and the origins of these comics:
I am a college graduate who recently turned 23. I am a Christian and someone who loves to attempt to make the world a better place. I love entertaining people. I act on occasion and have been many plays and musicals. Nothing feels better than to hear an audience laugh. That is how I sort of started these comics: From the need to make people laugh. Alhough I cannot physically see the people laugh or hear them, their comments and such make up for it. I also enjoy reading books, playing sports, playing video games, and pretty much anything when it comes to a recreational or entertaining activity. You could say I'm a Jack-of-all-trades and a master of none.

I have always enjoyed comics even though my family has never gotten a newspaper. I grew up surrounded by Calvin and Hobbes, as well as the Farside cartoons. My parents have a good and healthy sick sense of humor and it worked wonders on me. I have always felt that Calvin is my long lost brother. I went through a lot of what he went through and could therefore relat to the comics. I loved the art and situations of Calvin and Hobbes and really enjoyed the physical and mental humor that was in those comics. I literally got more intelligent while reading those comics as well as Farside comics. You kinda have to get smart to read those comics or else a lot of them just go over your head. Your vocabulary goes up, as well as your knowledge on various concepts.

The names and figures that make up "The Adventures of Chedwick and Sven" comics come from a variety of sources. For one I love the names of them. Chedwick is a name I use for any figure that entertains me. It's sort of my go-to name when I see something that is funny and something that I don't know the name of. I was playign a game of Heroscape with a bunch of Marro Drones and I was losing pretty badly. It all came down to my one remaining Marro against a horde of various 1st Master Set figures. This Marro was the mold of the Marro gloriously holding aloft his scythe-like spear in defiance. I was inspired and called him Chedwick for the remainder of the game. He actually lasted a few order markers before being cut to ribbons by Sergeant Drake, but it was clear he was something special. So whenever I play with the drones and there's one Marro left I always pictures him as Chedwick bravely standing firm in the shadow of a larger and much more strong army. Oh, and to clear things up, it's "Chedwick", not "Chadwick".

Sven's name and figure came about while playing my first game of Heroscape. At the time I wasn't too keen on mixing the sci-fi genre and fantasy genre so I decided that all my armies would consist of one or the other. My first army contained the likes of the Vikings, Sentinels, the Viking heroes, and other units not really worth remembering. The situation ended up being like what my Marro drone situation would be like in the future. (My first games as a heroscaper were not very impressive I guess). While playing I lost everything but one Tarn Viking. The sculpt of the figure was actually the Viking holding the sword and shield with the wing helmet. The blue-motif Viking if you will. He was my last guy and therefore needed a tale worth remembering and a name to match. Such was the birth of "Sven". Sven gallantly ran amoke in the enemy's forces and actually did pretty well before being felled by Krav Maga I believe. His situation moved me and was a natural choice when I was deciding what figures to use for a Heroscape comic. I chose the spear-wielding Viking as the figure of choice because I liked the helmet more and I didn't want people to see Sven's actual face. It works I think

Some of you who have read my comics have seen the similarities to Calvin and Hobbes, and i will take that as a good thing. My hope is that you still see them as something different from Calvin and Hobbes rather than a cheap knockoff. The sincerest form of flattery is imitation, but I want my comics to be more of a thing in and of themselves and just be a tribute to my favorite comics. The most obvious tribute to Calvin and Hobbes comes from my "poem" comics. Two of the comics, and one more coming, have to do with Sven reciting poetry he has made about Chedwick. I loved the comics in Calvin and Hobbes when Calvin would lament about his thoughts about tigers while Hobbes laid on the floor partially listening/falling asleep. I also love poetry and enjoy writing it so I thought my comics would be a great place to jsut write some poetry. I feel Sven has a side to him where he likes intellectual things, even though his persona may point to the opposite. Chedwick has that side too, and even more so, but he doesn't like to let on about it and especially doesn't want to be shown up in front of Sven. He's also a Marro so I have pictured him to get pretty angry at Sven for no apparant reason from time to time.

I have many more comics lines up for everybody, and I hope you will enjoy them. This is all I can type at the moment and hope you enjoy reading some of the backstory to these comics and I hope to continue this blog talking about the various comics in the future. Thanks for reading!
