Scaper of the Week 23 - NWOjedi

Posted March 9th, 2009 at 03:00 AM by Hex_Enduction_Hour
Updated March 9th, 2009 at 09:01 PM by Hex_Enduction_Hour

This Scaper of the Week has one of the greatest jobs of any of us.
He gets to paid fiddle with, polish, buff, poke, prod, make shiny, and clean out his very favorite interest - or is it his second favorite?

Let's leave it at that and see what he's sharing with us this week.

Our twenty-third 'Scaper of the Week is
NWOjedi

Who are you?
Neo Skywalker

What is your avatar and how did you come up with the username NwoJedi?
My avatar is the mischievous cheshire cat taken from the greatest pinball machine there is....Cirqus Voltaire. Nwojedi comes from a user name i've been using for the past 15 years, Because I used to be a wrestling fan back in the day, and my last name is skywalker.

Age:36

Occupation?
Restoration artist. You can see before and after pics of my work at captain neo's

Allegiance and why?
Ullar, because i'm a tree hugging dirt worshiper.

When did you get into HeroScape and why?
I've been playing since the game first game out. I like games with tons of pieces. It was on sale, I checked it out. Read the reviews on gamergeek, and went back and bought it on a whim.

Favorite aspect of HeroScape and why?
Kicking asses and taking names. Because it's fun.

Favorite Hero and why?
Me. Because I rock.

Favorite Unique Squad and why?
Marro warriors. Because it's the most bang for your buck.

Favorite Common Squad and why?
Marro drones. Because they are fun to play. Not practical, but fun nevertheless.

Favorite Special ability and why?
Frenzie, because you can't beat getting another turn.

Anything you'd change about the game - a unit, rule, or mechanic?
I'd change how the factions are setup. Split things up with more of a defined cut and dry affliliation.

What do you enjoy most about Heroscapers.com?
Thread derailment and talking about senseless dribble.

Favorite HeroScape moment:
Every Gencon, when I get to meet many of the awesome guys that play this game. I've never seen a game that has such a following of people, where so many have personalities that compliment one another. It's awesome.

Another board game you enjoy and why?
World of warcraft mini's. The mechanics and balance is setup so well. Stratigic element is top notch.

Three true things and one lie about yourself:
In the dark i've been mistaken for a horse. I'm a temple of extasy. I love to play. I'm a virgin. You pick the one you think is a lie.

Other interests?
Pinball, gaming, eyes wide shut parties.

What got you into pinball?
Video games. Used to be a big time video gamer since pac man came out. They used to hold the world pinball championships in milwaukee (near me). I recieved a flyer for it to sign up. Wasn't really into pinball at that time, but figured it's an arcade game so i'd start playing and practice. That year, addams family came out. Realized pinball now had a story, and ending like video games. I was hooked from then on out.

Favorite pinball machine
Covered earlier, but Cirqus voltaire is the all time favorite. Followed closely by Twilight zone. With this hobby, once you get one machine, you become obsessed. Need more. I now have 20 that are my favories. Took me awhile to refine my collection to only my top 20 but I managed. Now I need a new house so I can fit 30.

Greatest performance at a pinball tournament
Last year the midwest gaming classic, is the first and only time i've taken first in B division. What helped is that my Cirqus Voltaire machine was used in the finals.

What message do you have for the community?

hummmmm, a advice I have for anyone, probably shouldn't be in a forum that kids read.

Any Heroscapers member you'd really like to play against? Spiderpoison and lone wolf. These two guys, i've been partnered up with in the finals and they managed to squeek out a victory on me. I'd like to play it again and have another shot. I did get to play spiderpoison one other time, and we ended up in a Tie. Screwed us both out of the finals that year.

Who do you pick for the next 'Scaper of the Week? R˙chean.

Thanks for your time, Neo!

That is a poster of Vanessa Kaye. She's the busty Juggie from the Man Show. Also, was on that game show oblivious (i think that's what it was called). She had a booth at Gen Con 06 and was signing posters and stuff. My favorite juggie, so I had to get one. Way shorter than I thought she would be. She's like 5'1" or something.

Btw, there isn't anything wrong with that picture. It's not like it's not like that poster actually reveals anything anyway. Kids won't even notice it. Guys always notice it in my gameroom.

BTW, that huge formica laminate i'm holding up, is the table top used at Gen Con 07 for the demo tables in Hasbo's booth. I happened to be in the right place at the right time.

Right place at the right time for sure. I played CVN at the booth on one of those tables, it might even be that one. They were very nice indeed. I still view that as one of the biggest scores in 'scapedom. It makes me wonder what became of the other 3-4 tables they had there.

Which machine you bringing to GenCon this year?

There were 2 tables there, they actually offered me both tables. I wasn't thinking correctly and said I didn't want to be greedy and give someone else a chance to have one too. Upon hearing of my score. Joah promptly told me I should have been greedy and gave the extra to him. Not sure on what machine is going to our Gen Con room this year. All depends on the head count for our room.

Love the interview, Hex Enduction Hour and NwoJedi. . Funny and interesting (and awesome ) read, see ya in August!

NwoJedi and my Dad and I were standing around the hasbro booth at Gencon 07' (awesome gencon btw, and my first) when people were taking the terrain and other display goodies apart and giving it to folks that stood in a long line. We were going to jump to the table offer after Neo had one but we couldn't fit that on a plane any day. Maybe gencon mailing? But it was too late, some lady and a ton of her children were running out with it hahaha. But before then us 3 were standing around the giant terrain while they took the jungle and figures off to give the rest away to people. RogueAssassin's wife was like the first in the giant line forming to take terrain, and because I had a great laugh with RA, his wife, and son for having my Warrior's Vest, she ran over to me and asked if we wanted anything. Then asked NwoJedi. I requested for some water if she could and she comes running over dumping piles of a total of like 40 water tiles and a bunch of other stuff into our dice tower bag. Nwo got a good amount of things as well, hand fulls and hand fulls, it was awesome and we didn't even wait in line!

EDIT: My biggest score for Heroscape is The GenCon 07' Heroscape Tournament Poster, the Heroscapers after hours (I call it) on Sunday rolled off to see which 2 each get one. I rolled an 18 recieving one and another guy rolled a 20 (but I think he gave it to Elstree because he was the same guy that just borrowed figures for an army from Elstree for Big Ole Monster Battle and came in 2nd to R˙chean in it. . It's a sweet poster, and I still haven't taken it down since I first put it up (even though I'm going to finally put it away soon, probably the next time I go up to my dad's, and once I find a cylinder big enough).

Besides "Thread derailment and talking about senseless dribble", don't forget about meaningless polls especially ones about Mr T.

NWO, what makes Cirque Voltaire such an amazing pinball game?

Oh, I really like the custom hot pink you did on the Black Lagoon machine.

Are there notable pinball machine artists and designers or are those arcade designs by anonymous creators?

C.V. is awesome, because it's just plain fun. It has like 6 different multiballs with completely different objectives. Plus, those multiballs can be stacked on top of each other if you do them in the correct order. Making it a complete chaos mess. On paper, Twilight Zone is a superior game (which is my number 2 pin, and has been for 15 years), but it's more serious. Doesn't have the carefree fun element that CV displays. Hard to explain unless your playing them.

As for designers. My two favorites are John Popaduik and Pat Lawlor. I have 2 or 3 pins from each of those guys. Pat Lawlor is the reason I even care about pinball. He made games like, Funhouse, Addams family, Twilight zone, Earthshaker, Whirlwind, and a ton of others. Popaduik didn't make as many (5 total), but his games are so beautiful and unique. He brings a fresh element to pinball.

For artist, i don't know them by name, but their credits are always on every playfield. Software designers, sound, everything.

added note: Mr.T doesn't have time for Jibba Jabba.

I should have told my little story about getting banned on .net back in the day. Or was that HQ? I don't even remember anymore, it was so long ago. Memories......

You may have also been banned from .net (it certainly seems feasible :-p ) but I just missed being a .netter so I have no idea.
