Making soap and other adventures.

Posted February 16th, 2009 at 02:10 AM by Melwing17
Random blog time!

My wife- we'll call her "Abbie", since her name is... well, Abbie.. anyway, shes been on this kick lately where she's making stuff. Not just like making dinner, but actually making stuff.

Soap.
Not like pouring pre-made stuff from a bottle into soap molds. No, sir- she's putting on goggles, getting out the blender... getting the lye, etc- and freakin' making soap. Great soap, too. Smells great and works... well, works like a bar of soap should.

Dish scrubbers.
She found this awesome, but admittedly weird way to make scrubbers for the dishes. Can't think of a better word than that- not sponges, but the ones you really scrub with. Anyway... she's taking plastic grocery sacks and cutting them in this particular way so that they pull out into one very long continuous strand. Then she knits them (yes, with knitting needles) into these nifty little scrubbers. They work great. This isn't one she made, but just like this:

bahde and quozl saw one being made, they can testify to how neat it is... or to how fruity I am for thinking it is neat, at any rate.

Also, we recently got a big chest freezer. So we (well, mostly she) spent most of today cooking like 30 meals' worth of food, loading it into freezer-safe containers, and freezing it for future use. Kinda cool.

What have I been doing while she does all this? Well, helping when needed of course! But the rest of the time, I've been working on painting some Warhammer 40k and GW LotR minatures.

Also slowly working on flocking my Heroscape terrain. And when I have the time to devote to keeping a watchful eye on it, I've been converting a master set or two's worth of tiles to snow and lava via spraypaint (and a bit of black acrylic paint for the lava of course) rather than paying nutso ebay prices for the genuine sets. I'm pleased with the results, I'll post pictures eventually.

Also, we have been discussing an idea I've had for a different way to play Heroscape that is cooperative, and based on setting 3-4 groups of commons at pre-determined points on a map that you have to clear, building up to a "boss" battle after the objectives are completed. There will be more D&D/WoW aspects to it, most likely straight up class creation rather than just using Sgt. Drake and Raelin, for example, you'll probably create your own character. Will take alot of playtesting, but I really like the idea.

We got the LOTR: Conquest game for 360. It's bloody hard. And the camera sucks. And there's a commentator that makes it feel like you're watching a sporting event. It's pretty though, and I think we'll struggle through it. Worth a rent or perhaps buying once it goes down to the $20 range, but I wouldn't suggest paying full retail price for it.

That's all I've got, time to pass out.

'til next time.

That create-a-character sounds cool! I'd like to get in on the playtesting if you'd need any help. Just drop me a PM or something.

Hey, speaking of creating a character, you should make one of soap! ...No?
