Heroscape D3 Week 4 Preview: Ogre Pulverizer and Horned Sku

Welcome back to preview Wednesdays!

Today, we’re going to cover 2 of the new Army Cards. The Ogre Pulverizer and the Horned Skull Brutes.

Ogre Pulverizer:

The Ogre Pulverizer is Utgar’s latest Uncommon Hero. We designed him as another big dumb brute, just like the Ogre Warhulk in D2. He’s able to hit multiple figures per turn, but he’s so obsessed with swinging his tree trunk around, that he’s not paying attention to any potential countering attacks.

Horned Skull Brutes:

The next squad we’re revealing is the Horned Skull Brutes. These goblins are adept at running into battle and causing mayhem. They will toss their fellow goblins under the sword rather than take the damage themselves, but they are also able to whip friendly figures around in order to take their place in melee combat. No matter what, they are a terror on the battlefield and they can destroy a well planned out strategy with just one order marker.

And finally, we have the last 2 Glyphs that are available in this set. Last week we revealed the 2 permanent treasure glyphs, today we’ll focus on the 2 temporary treasure glyphs.

Revenant’s Tome is our second Ancient Artifact Treasure Glyph. An army can only have one of any specific Ancient Artifact under their control at any one time, and when you read the power, you’ll know why. Lost your heavy hitter already? That’s OK! Use the tome to bring it back for one last hurrah!

The Scarab of Invulnerability will be a welcome addition to an adventuring group on their last legs, desperately trying to make it past a tough opponent.

Revenant’s Tome- Ancient Artifact (Unnatural Revival) Included in the "Heroes of Fallcrest" set.

This figure may use this tome after revealing an order marker on its Army Card. Before taking that turn with this figure, Place one previously destroyed Unique figure from your Army onto any empty space(s) within 5 clear sight spaces of this figure. Immediately make a normal attack with the placed figure, then immediately destroy the placed figure. While the placed figure is on the board consider all of its special powers to be negated. The placed figure is considered to have a life of 1, and is not affected by any special powers on any Army Card or Glyph while on the board.

Scarab of Invulnerability (Ignore Wounds): Included in the "Valkrill’s Legion” set.
This figure may use this scarab whenever it receives one or more wounds. Roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 1-15, ignore one of the wounds just received. If you roll a 16 or higher, ignore all wounds just received.

I’ve also updated the FAQs to 13.4 with an addition on the Ogre Pulverizer.

Here is the schedule for the final reveals as we get ready for National Heroscape Day across the world (I’m looking at you Australia)!

10/13: The Mezzodemon Warmongers, The Death Chasers of Thesk, and Evar Scarcarver

I’m very excited to announce that there will be 3 National Heroscape Day Events with D3 figures on display as well! Each one will reveal a final figure as well as have a portion of the other figures available for all in attendance to check out.

New England: Ice Troll Berserker revealed, Siege, Mezzodemon Warmongers, and the Ogre Pulverizer

Texas: Master of the Hunt revealed, Death Knights of Valkrill, Frost Giant of Morh, and the Horned Skull Brutes

Tree Town: Moltenclaw revealed, Eltahale, Death Chasers of Thesk, and Evar Scarcarver.

I’ll post the preview for all 3 cards that night (10/16)

Good Gaming!

Hmm... the pulverizer is pretty nice thematically, but seems to be setting itself up to get trashed. I really think ogres could use just a little bit of synergy before they get to be any better than our previous uncommons. The brutes look really nice, though, especially with that handy-dandy little sacrifice special. Overall, I'd call this preview a wash.

Sweet. Love how the Brutes work well with the Cutters-even though I'd imagine they'd be tough to run without a huge start zone-good thing the brutes have quality attack and defense.

I agree that the Ogre seems a little weak-I'd definitely be afraid of attacking anything with 3 or more defense with him.

Meh, I don't think I'll use either of these units much. They just don't fit my play style.

I like the Bugbears, but the Ogre seems pretty bad, hes just too weak to give everyone defending figure counter strike, even with double attack. Maybe if he had some sort of health regen. He'll probably never tournament play.

Remember, not every card is meant for A+ tournament standard.

13.4

Is the update to the FAQ regarding whether the Ogre is going to take double counterstrike wounds from samurai, etc.?

In fact, only 3 are.*

*And they probably weren't meant for it either.

I like the Horned Skull Brutes. Those three particular sculpts actually look quite good. I strongly dislike that two of them have feet extending beyond the edge of the base, but maybe that's just me.

At first I think the Ogre looked a bit gimped to be honest. I was sure the only reason why he was 100 points is due to his 6 life as the double attack was almost negated by auto counter attack.

But thinking further about it, this makes him a situational figure in which you will only attack low defense models with - a weak squad killer. In this role, he would be powerful, hence the 100 points. It does seem costed for his ideal conditions though, as in any other situation, he's going to struggle.

Would love to see the huge base from above as it appears to extend over the edge of the hex spaces in that shot.

Cheers,
Ben.
