The stress involved to have alot of fun.

Posted November 1st, 2008 at 11:38 AM by Onacara
As anyone here who has planned a party or a tournament can probably attest to, there is alot of stress and anxiety involved with getting everything done. You want to make sure yor guests enjoy themselves as well as make yourself look good. Inveitably you end up forgetting something (come on you are human things happen) but you get so worked up about it that you think everything is ruined because of it.

Now lets take that same level of stress and anxiety and multiply it by 100 and that is will describe me right now trying to plan everything out for TempleCon and TotalCon, two gaming conventions here in the north east that NESA has been asked to run Heroscape at.

Maybe it's just me and my wanting to do "too much" but I really want this to come off the way I think companies should present their games. I don't want it to look like it is being run by a bunch of goofball fans. I want this to be a mini-GenCon experience for those who can't make the annual pilgimage to Indy but to also wet their whistle enough that they do decide that this was so great that they HAVE TO go to GenCon next year.

I really am trying to keep myself in reality here as I know if I don't it will cost me a few hundred if not thousand dollars to get it perfect. In the end I imagine that as long as everyone has fun then we have achieved our goal.

So what exactly is going into all of this planning? Alot and I hope to document it all here in a journal form so you can take this trip along with me and my crew.

Today begins the test runs on how exactly we are going to apply our sponsors logos to our playing tables. We want to make sure that those who contribute prize support are properly recognized and displayed so all of the attendees know where to get their Heroscape and Gaming accessories. Naturally Heroscapers.com will get plenty of advertising too because without them we never would have gotten to where we are now.

Any ideas...feedback...etc is appreciated.

For once, I am not envious of you Onacara. I wish you the best of luck in getting this thing running and being the best it can be.

My only advice would be to try and consider it all from the fans perspective every now and again when you get too stressed from it all. As fans, we don't really care about all the subtle things you do - they are noticed, just not always appropriately appreciated - so long as we get to play some 'scape.

I don't care if the lighting's bad, the room's crowded, etc. as long as I get to play. When I play, I have fun. When I have fun, it's a joyful time. When it's a joyful time, it's a good memory of a positive gaming experience. And when that happens, you, the organizer, have done your job. Well. Remarkably well.

Just remember that when you get a little too stressed from it all.

My two cents.

You've got to remember this: if you held TempleCon in your Mom's Basement (A.K.A your room ) it would still be freaking awesome. I really appreciate all of this work you are putting into this, but we'll be pleased no matter what.

Hmmmm...Mom's basement :ponder:

That might be a possibility for a "Rumble in the Bronx" event
