This Week@HeroScapers - August 30 to September 5
Image of the Week
Karhma's fantastic Wolves of Badru repaints match the dark side of Utgar. The detail on their eyes make these "relentless" creatures even more sinister.
Thread of the Week
As time goes on and more characters are added, Scapers form new tactics that pair those units that are both old and new. There are still bound to be combinations unseen by our eyes that will impact the use of units. Scaper Eckels has made a thread talking about the best ways to utilize the Elf army, which has grown with Wave 8. See his post here.
Event of the Week
The Eastern Pennsylvanians are having a showdown in New Jersey on Saturday, with 30+ attendees. it appears that Scapers are sharing the love, with multiple attendees bringing friends. Check it out in the Events section here.
With the advent of Gencon, the exclusive begging and pleading has only gotten louder. But for the new users who think this is recent, I'd like to point out this thread. Back in 2006, our own Oogie_da_Bruce started a thread shortly after Gencon '06, for the sole purpose of begging people for Sir Hawthornes. Then other members show up and start. There are offers of family members, vital organs, and even a soul or two in exchange for that elusive knight. I can think of one person who may be happy about that...
Blog of the Week
Have a question? Well, Ask Papa-'Scape! If you have a question on Heroscape etiquette, such as "When my friend uses Grimnak to chomp one of my figures he makes these awful smacking sounds and pretends to chew up my figures. Is that OK?" just send a private message to revdyer, and he'll relay your question to papa scape and he just might answer it for you! go ahead kids, ask away, just don't confuse him with a certain smurf!
Scaper of the Week
A new blog on Heroscapers.com by Hex_Enduction_Hour shines a spotlight on some important members of the community. This week, it was LilNewbie. Newb, as he signs his posts, points out in the interview "...all the units are still fun to play and the game has almost zero power-creep". This is a great aspect of Heroscape, and hopefully one that will make it through the transfer to WoTC. Check out the rest of the interview here.
Non-HS Gaming Review
Greetings 'scapers! This is a new section I (Roland) would like to try and introduce to this Week @ Heroscapers. Now I understand what the title implies, but at the same time, a lot of our members are out and about playing games aside from Heroscape (Blasphemous!). As a nod to them, and the many others that would like to grow interest in such an idea I will be featuring a new game, article, or site that focuses on a game or games outside of the realm of Valhalla.
This week we will begin with a game that was actually recently given away here on Heroscapers, and one that Mr. Bistro will now have no chance of owning aside from signing over all material possessions and eternal servitude.
The game is Risk, a game that many are familiar with, and that most fear and loathe for a lot of reasons. But this is not the same Risk that you remember, it has been retooled to help fix a lot of the issues the previous version had and to celebrate Hasbro produced 1,000 copies of a limited edition Risk: Black Ops. Now getting a copy of Black Ops is impossible to do, but you can go into almost any major retailer that carries board games and pick up a copy for around $25. Having not played it at all, and not being a game reviewer of any caliber all I can say is the instruction manual alone is worth the money. Done to resemble a military dossier all the rules are contained in a folder and are full color glossy, and each page of rules covers a different part of the game as it happens.
Week in Review
This week saw the return of Scapers from the mecca of GenCon, an annual pilgrimage for many. Things haven't slowed down, as players are still exploring the wave 8 and 8.5 figures. In fact, the GenCon Champion Spider_Poison released the power rankings for the new figures, while also updating some older ones and introducing "The Watch List". overall, the new figures from Wave 8 and 8.5 are still keeping scapers busy, whether it be in army-building, repaints, or playing tactics.

Funny you should mention the "Hawthorne Begging" thread, as it has been recently resurrected. And I am still waiting for my Super Bowl 35 tickets!

Yes, very good wolves of Badru, but I would have painted their eyes red. The terrain repaints in the background are pretty awesome, too

He should add some bulk to their tummies, since they gorged themselves on ashigaru last week.
He did a great job with those wolves. They were accompanied by another unmodified squad or two and they made the whole group look better. |
