Heroscape Thanks
Posted November 27th, 2008 at 07:29 AM by rdhight
Beyond Heroscape itself, and this site itself, here are some things I'm thankful for as I sit down to some holiday 'Scaping:
10. Roads and ladders, for being the crucial terrain pieces that increase the pace of the game, instead of bogging it down more and more with every special object added to a map.
9. Wargamers HQ, for finding an alternative to brick & mortar lameness and eBay lameness alike.
8. spider_poison, for not pulling any punches on units that suck big time lack competitive worth.
7. The opponents I've played who made a maximum effort to beat me. Nothing can kill the fun of a board game like knowing the other guy isn't trying. No matter where you played me or who won (or why), thanks for going all-out.
6. Stingers, Marcu, Isamu, Tor-Kul-Na, and Cyprien. We now have a ranged common with 3 base attack, some more non-silly d20 units, and good filler-- all very long overdue. If Heroscape gets the WotC death penalty now in the post-Wave 7 era, it'll go to its doom as a much more well-rounded game.
5. Sisyphus, Mathguy, and all others who do the Heroscape math so you don't have to.
4. The Silver Surfer, for bringing a new level of awesomeness that demonstrates just how poky all other "flying" figures really are.
3. Bahde, for running two good tournaments for charity near me. My sister and I both walked away from his NHSD food-drive event with Skahens.
2. The official Heroscape FAQ and those who wrote it. Hasbro/WotC have been guilty of plain old sloppy writing on Heroscape cards, but they do almost always go back and get it right on the second try.
1. Raelin, for only having 3 defense.

Heh-- I never thought of making that clearer! But see, "The Silver Surfer" isn't bolded in the article. If you brought a new level of awesomeness, your forum name would be in bold.

Yes, I figured that out, but I got a laugh out of it anyway.
