The Adventures of Chedwick and Sven Comics Blog Part 4

Posted May 1st, 2008 at 03:38 PM by gamjuven
Hello again all, this time I will be talking more about Michael Savisky and his drawings in comic #11, as well as the comic itself.

As I have said before Mike is the photographer, editor, computer dude in the comics. He is responsible for the high "production quality" that you see with the comics. Without him my comics would look fuzzy and relatively boring.

We'll start off by looking at the comic:

Now keep in mind that you can see a better-looking version of the comic in the gallery or in the forum dedicated to the comics.

Now what I was looking for was a comic that would look a little different from the rest of them. I have a couple more ideas of how they could look different but for now I wanted to use actual drawings.

I wanted it to look like the "See Spot Run" books. I didn't want the rustic and old-looking drawings that those books have, but the format and wording needed to be the same for the humor to pass on. I thought it would be hilarious if Sven would write a children's book, as it would not work very well as a children's book at all. The first two panels show Sven very likable and silly cavorting about enjoying himself. Then of course Sven's children's book gets carried away as it shows him burning and pillaging the neighboring village.

I told Mike roughly what I wanted, gave him Sven, and let him loose. What he created was great. He captured Sven's inability to draw very well into something that looks professional, yet something that you could see a child-like-mind drawing.

He drew these on some paper and we photographed the paper. I found some very old coloring pencils and Mike made the picture look great. mike also animated the little book that Chedwick throws away in the last panel, along with the "throwing lines".

The comic can stand alone but its sequel shall be released next week. The hint I'll give is that Chedwick is really really annoyed and angry, much more annoyed than you'd usually expect one would get after reading Sven's attempt at a Children's book.

Now onto Mike some more. He's a writer, director, producer, editor and cinematographer. Some of his works include the Bracula animated films, other animated shorts by Caterpillar Films (note: there is another Caterpillar Films company that is done by two mothers. That is not us, lol.), "Wanted", "Man vs Machine", and "Heart Failure".

"Heart Failure" won him best editing, best director, and best actor in the 48 Hour Film Challenge in 2007. That short movie also made it as one of the top 200 international finalists for Steven Speilberg and Mike Burnett's FOX series "On the Lot". It also was the Ourstage.com national winner for Best Short Film of November and December 2007.

Many of his films have won awards like the ones above and you can see them and other stuff in a profile of his here: http://www.ourstage.com/fanclub/mcsavisky

Well I think that will conclude today's blog. Let me know what you think. Please feel free to go check out the comics in either the gallery or in the comic thread in the Fan art and Fiction section. Also, please let me know what you think and post in the thread, leave a comment in the gallery, rate the comics, or PM me with thoughts and suggestions. Feedback is greatly appreciated and I look forward to bringing more comics to you all. Take care and have a great day!

I think by typing this, I will be the first person to directly comment on MIKE'S work. Not that I don't like yours, of course...
