Old

I keep telling myself that this is going to be the last one.

Posted August 20th, 2016 at 02:16 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
Iíve been doing medieval themed kid camps for more than a decade. Iím getting older. The physicality of running around and foam sword fighting kids is only slightly more challenging. Iíve became a different kind of warrior. I donít move so fast, but I hold my ground. Instead of a dancer, Iím a bulldozer. I was never a good dancer anyway. Instead of jumping out, I wait. Come to me, if you dare.

The preparation week is full of memories. Gathering the equipment- swords, shields, daggers, fabric for capes, all kinds of things really. The weapons are old friends. I donít know what awaits, but I will face it. This far along Iíve seen almost everything, experienced pretty much all that can happen. Blood, injuries, kids with problems. They are the coming battle. Iím slowly preparing mentally, physically for the challenge. Brain on whetstone.

The sponsor wants the program to continue. Itís successful. They make money. Over the last couple years...

The Sunken Temple - A Faceless Ones! Adventure.

The Map. A large relatively open space, flooded with Swamp Water.

Glyph of Wannok (Wound): At the end of every round, roll the 20-sided die. If you roll a 1, the figure on the Glyph receives one wound. If you roll a 2 or higher, you may choose an opponent who must give one wound to any figure he or she controls on the battlefield.

Expanding Choice in the 16 Card/Choice Draft

Posted August 17th, 2016 at 03:41 PM by kolakoski
Updated August 17th, 2016 at 09:50 PM by kolakoski

Well met!

In my
Codex Article, I laid out the fundamentals of the 16 Card/Choice Draft. The most recent, and fairly successful example of one is The Faceless Ones! (a Battle Report featuring this scenario can be found here). The point range (140-300) of the Draft is fairly narrow (a good thing), yet contains a huge number of great Cards. The name of the scenario lends itself to using it as an evolutionary template for a future series of Faceless Ones! games, in that it implies that there are no fixed characters. The first of these will be that visualized in The Heroscape Traveller, The Sunken Temple - A Faceless Ones! Adventure. The Map will be a bit different, and feature Swamp Water (rather than Water), and there will be a couple of substitute units from my recently acquired kollection. Over time, different maps and substitutions will change the context, but the cast (barring additional purchases) will remain the same.

kolakoski's Impressionistic Battle Report

Posted August 12th, 2016 at 12:44 PM by kolakoski

Well met, Gang fans!

I love it when a plan comes together . . .

The Gang of Four met yesterday (8/10/16), and twice played
The Faceless Ones! - Draft Version. A good time was had by all, and thanks once again to chas for once again making his Game Palace a site of joy for everyone (and recording the Draft and Armies lists below).

Before we could begin, the contretemps concerning how to play Malekith and Chameleon within Sherman's Team Rules for this scenario was settled. Sherman convinced me, and the rest of the Gang, that this was possible without any ambiguities. We also decided to play within our usual 10 Round time limit. That being done, we continued the first Snake Draft. After we completed the Draft (for each game), teammates were determined randomly. [Taeblewalker took a few pics with his (late model) phone. You'll be able to actually see something. I'll add them when they hit the Gallery.]

A Canoe Tale

Posted August 10th, 2016 at 08:45 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus
I own a canoe. Iíve had it for 25 years, but Iím sad to say that I havenít used it 25 times.

The reasons are simple. It is stored elsewhere, because I have no place to store it. And I have to travel to places to use the canoe- rivers and lakes. Itís not like a bicycle that I can just jump on and ride. It involves planning, free time and a small carton of energy.

We have had some memorable canoe trips in the past. I usually go with my kids, my sweetie or friends. A lot of the canoeing places are natural areas and they are quite beautiful- forests and streams with lots of birds, vegetation, butterflies and wildlife. And yea, there was that time we saw the monster in the river.

This year my middle son was going away for the summer and so I wanted to canoe with him before he left. My eldest son asked to come along too so we were three.

They did not grumble when I set the leaving time at 7:00am. I wanted to be out before...
