Chardris - Card Preview
Posted May 23rd, 2008 at 11:09 AM by truth
The card you see here is the corrected version of Chardris. The version you'll likely see in the first pack you pick up will be a version with a couple of text errors in it.
From the desk of Paul Barclay:
Errata for Chardris: The advanced side of Chardris's printed stat card has two text errors, one minor and one major. The minor error is a mis-spelling of his name in one place. The major error is that the word "minimum" appears on the card, where the word "maximum" should appear. This is obviously a mistake, as his ability doesn't work sensibly with the word minimum. These errors require us to release official errata for Chardris. Here's the official text of the card that should be used in all games:
FIRE STRIKE SPECIAL ATTACK
Range 6. Attack 2 + Special.
When Chardris attacks with Fire Strike Special Attack, add 1 to Chardris’s attack dice for every additional Elf Wizard you control within 3 clear sight spaces of Chardris, up to a maximum of +3 dice.
The Chardris stat card image previewed at Heroscapers.com, and any Chardris images hosted on Heroscape.com include this errata, and are correct. Additionally, for this hero, please feel free to use printouts of the officially corrected card image in play.
We know this is a problem that's unlikely to come up in future sets - it was a one-off editing mistake that happened last summer, and we've got some different processes at Wizards that are designed to prevent those kind of errors. Also, we've added an extra set of eyes to the end of the process (the playtester team) so that we minimize the chance of silly mistakes in the future. Finally, future reprints of Wave 8 should use the corrected card.

I can picture a battle with all the elves in a single army will sound like this...
"I attack the elf wizard" "Which one?" "The one with the fireball." "Which one??" "That one that gets cooler with other elves" "Which one???" "The one with the silly name" "WHICH ONE???" And alot of... "Oops, I meant to put the marker on this one, not that one." "Oops I moved the wrong elf" "Oh I shot him by mistake, I thought that other guy was the summoner elf..." I can't wait to draft them all ha ha! |

Very nice indeed. The missprint on the card is going to bother me though.

This guy's awesome, and makes the elf team even better (which I didn't think it could have gotten). I'm kinda dissapointed how similar to Jorhdawn he is, they could have made him a bit more different. Anyways, great!

Something I think is worth mentioning is that he is yet another elf with a high life. It used to be that only Morsbane had any lasting power among the tree-huggers, but those ranks are swelling. Considering their mass move nature, I wouldn't be surprised to see Keldra getting dusted off again. Of course, 'ol Sonlen fits right in too, even if he can't stick with the pack.

Sweet!!! Point values considered, I think this is one of the best elves yet. I only have 3 problems with the incresing elf armies. I'm sorry if these have been said before, but I'm new here.
1. I'm a casual player, and sometimes I like to do random draft. It seems like none of these elves will be worth half their point value if you don't get an army based on them. 2. Also being a casual player (and I feel like you all are going to shoot me for this), I don't ususally get multiple coppies of common squads. This makes it so that it will be hard for me to use their full potential when I am drafting. 3. When I actually DO play in tournements, I feel like every other player will have an elf army now. This combined with the Marro army makes it so that we won't be seeing very much variety in tournaments these days. not a sermon, just a thought. |

What I'm REALLY waiting for is a figure that helps tricky units. Think about it, it could be huge in an elf or soulborg army (and I realize that this guy is Valient, so don't 'correct' me on that)

Okay in my opinion... It just might be that DWK9K's days of glory are here... along with zelrig's... And about the name... Sudema... Medusa? What's with that?

joepro, this sort of army is perfect for you as a casual player- there's no benefit to getting multiples of the wizards because they're unique. All you'll need to get is the two hero packs from wave 8, and you'll have a fun army-in-a-box to play.
I admit that their strength in drafted games will be low, but that also lowers the utility of a 'draft to deny' as well, so most players will let you draft most of them I think, because they won't bother getting Arkmer or Kyntela just to sit in their starting zone the whole game. |
