Looking Back on Ten Years of Heroscape

Posted August 3rd, 2014 at 11:14 AM by Grungebob
It's Been 10 Years Heroscape

Hello everyone! My name is Jerry Hawthorne. I'm known around here as Grungebob. I have been scarce these days, but I come by daily just to lurk around and observe the community in action. The torch bearers, keepers of the flame, the creative geniuses who make Heroscape customs, build insane maps, post battle reports and foster community. I love what I see.

I wanted to take some time out of my schedule in observance of the decade of awesome gaming Heroscape has provided. That's right, ten great years. It is a credit to the game and this community. Ten years is a milestone in the board game industry. Most games have receded into distant memory after just a couple of years. Heroscape is what I call an heirloom game. The kind of game you just never get rid of because you never really get tired of playing it and even if you get pulled away on some other hobby, you know you will be back.

Heck, I want to play Heroscape...

So What Is Steamroller?

I have been all over Heroscapers blasting folks with Steamroller. Many of you are probably wondering what the heck is Steamroller? And an insignificant few of you are probably thinking STFU!

So anyway, I thought tonight, since I have relaxed with a glass or 3 of red wine, I would give in and let you all know what Steamroller is.

See when we are play-testing figures for Heroscape we like to try certain army builds. Some of these we build in an effort to break the system, and others we use as strong stable test choices that will create a decent challenge for any army. We like to give these armies nicknames.

When testing figures for Wave 9 there was a particular army design we like to call The Steamroller. The army got the name for two reasons.

1- This army build is powerful and can crush other armies if you're not careful. Steamroller!

2- When playing this army, it is beneficial to continually pull figures from the rear...

What about this Rules Team

Posted March 29th, 2009 at 11:24 AM by Grungebob
Ok, I thought I would hop on my blog and post about the Rules Team so that anybody who wants to know more about this process can just come here and read about it.

Who are we?
Well, the Rules Team is headed up informally by TheGuru. TheGuru, also known as Chris, has a long history of customer support work at Hasbro. He was in charge of making sure that questions sent in to Hasbro had accurate and quality answers. He also was in charge of FAQ content. TheGuru has developed systems to check each Heroscape figure for possible rules issues and wording problems. In answering questions sent in, TheGuru would confer with the actual designers of Heroscape. Now with WOTC in charge of Heroscape, any questions sent that do not get answered properly get recalled and fixed by TheGuru and the Rules Team. The Rules Team are a group of volunteers that have had a hand in Heroscape playtesting and quality assurance for some time. A wide variety of people are involved and the process is...

Heroscapers at GenCon '06

Posted July 17th, 2006 at 11:46 AM by Grungebob
OK folks, Gencon is less than a month away and I don't know about you, but I can't wait!! Behind the scenes we have been dealing with a rollercoaster ride of challenges and pitfalls trying to put together the best Gencon Heroscape experience possible with our limited talents and resources.

Some of you may remember the Crimson Hawks, and the drama surrounding them, and then we had an experienced Event Organizer that promised a whole lot flash and glitz, and then left. There were some scheduling issues with the events and frankly, there were too many events for us to support so we made many changes.

The result is that we are going to have a total of 9 events with some pretty good prizes. We have a great team of volunteers to run these events and we are going to have fun, and help put Heroscape on the map. Hopefully, we will make new players, and make new friends. There is just something...
