TGRF's Fan Fiction Chronicles - Entry #103
Since my last update, Archmage of Feylund has been released, concluding Dilmir's tale. If you haven't read it, definitely go check it out. And now that it is completed, it's time to turn my attention to the future. There are two main avenues the future of writing for me is currently comprised of, so I'll break them down separately.
Future Fan Fiction
While I would at the moment say that the release of future fan fiction is quite likely, I won't say it's a certainty (indeed, based on my track record in these FFCs, I should never say anything I might do is a certainty).
I have a story, which is a sequel to Valkyrie, my tale of Utgar's origins. Currently I'm titling it Dawn of Darkness, though that could change. It picks up immediately (give or take a few weeks) after Valkyrie, and centers around Utgar, Taelord, and Runa. Currently it's moving along nicely and starting to take shape. Barring a sudden interest in writing something else, it could be released in around five or six months, which seems to be typical for my good-sized fan fictions.
The first novel
The magic system for the first novel (and hopefully series of sequels) is in place. I also have the basic outline of what kind of character arcs the main character will go through in the series. Therefore, it is now time to start worldbuilding. I plan on taking my time and building up the world quite a bit, because I know from past experience that doing so can maintain my interest in the story.
During this time, to avoid burning out in one story, I plan on keeping the Valkyrie sequel on the backburner, and working on it whenever the worldbuilding begins to lag. This will likely mean the sequel will take longer than normal to release, and depending on how things play out, it may never be released. But I plan to keep working on it, so I'll keep you updated on its progress.
At this point, there isn't a whole lot I can gain from writing fan fiction. I've tested just about every theory and practice I can, and it's certainly time for me to start serious work on my first novel.
However, something else I've learned from past experience is that it is a good thing to always be writing. So I plan on continuing to work on fan fiction while the bigger novel takes shape.
As always, I will continue to keep you updated on the progress of both projects.
Until then, keep writing.
