FFC #8 - Battle of the Infinite Series

It's very important to keep in mind that everything I say in these FFC's is subject to change, and that said change can happen very easily and without the slightest warning. Especially in this case.

Releasing details of something which is only in the earliest possible stages of conceptualization is inherently a bad idea, due precisely to the chance for it to change. That being said, I'm doing it anyway. Take it with a large grain of salt. You've been warned.

I recently mentioned how I had found the setting for my Dilmir series. I still have that, though it is slightly less stable than when I found it. Anything is possible when I develop the theme: it could solidify and be perfect, or it could fall apart completely. Time will tell.

FFC #7 - (Possible) Return of the Elf

Here it is, another update from me. Now your day is complete.

In my last FFC, I talked about Dilmir, and how there was a slim chance I could rewrite it and release it here once more. Since I've said that, that chance has ballooned into a good possibility.

In FFC #6, I mentioned how the theme for Dilmir wasn't strong enough for an unending series of novels. Another part of the problem was that I simply could not find the right setting for it - a truly passive one. I had been trying to find the right setting for at least two years.

Conveniently enough, the moment I decided that Dilmir wasn't cut out to be a novel, I happened to find the perfect setting. No problems. No head banging. It was just... there, staring me in the face. It's so simple, so easily tested, that I know it works.

FFC #6 - 'Under Consideration'

I don't know if anyone watches the progress of my fan fictions in my signature. It doesn't really matter, as it's more a place for me to congratulate myself on how much progress I'm making (or lack thereof) than anything else.

Point is, if anyone has been watching my sig, they might have noticed that for a few days it's been saying my future novels are 'under consideration'. I know you've been dying to find out what that means, so I'll explain.

For those of you who don't know, one of my first attempts at writing with actual development was a trilogy set on Feylund centered around a powerful elf named Dilmir. The trilogy is refered to as the Dilmir trilogy.

It was my first foray into actually writing with a structure, and the first time I ever really considered writing as something more than just a fun hobby. It might have been that mindset. It might have been something else. The end result was that...

FFC #5 - What I've been missing

It is my opinion that my fan fiction writing peaked with The River that was Red, back in early 2015. I believe the primary reason is, ironically, not due to any great change in how I wrote. Instead, I think Red was the result of a true and undying interest in what I was writing, and what I was writing about.

A lot of things contribute to my desire to write fan fiction, but Red is the only fiction so far to have as many sources as it did which I was - to give it a name - passionate about. And that passion didn't die down until I had completed Red. I've always said that to turn out something great, you really, really need to believe in it. Up until Red, I hadn't been taking my own advice.

FFC #4 - The nature of Horizon in Sight

Last year (yep, that joke still lives), I wrote my FFC #3, revealing who would and wouldn't be appearing in Horizon in Sight.

Unfortunately, shortly afterwards, I realized that I had made an error. I had developed the subcharacters, intending to follow by creating and developing the subplots. The problem was... the subplots created their own subcharacters, and completely removed the need for others. I quickly realized that I should have worked with subplots first, and subcharacters second.

So that's what I'm doing. Once I'm done with the subplots for HiS, I'll go back to the subcharacters and pick up the pieces. Until then... there's a good chance everything I said in FFC #3 is wrong. There's also a good chance everything I said will still apply too. Just... be forewarned.
