The Spirit of the Dungeon Crawl

Well met!

No, this is not the name of my newest scenario. Rather, it is what I will seek to create in a series of scenarios, as outlined in a recent post:

"Ghostship, in Heroscape, since "nobody really dies," the DM device is not necessary to invoke the "Spirit" alluded to earlier. Simply take the mechanics of The Giant Grove of Utgar! and adapt them for a Dungeon Crawl. Specifically:

"When placing Order Markers (OMs), at the beginning of each Round, 1 (and only 1) OM (other than the X) must be placed on one of the Giants . . ."

For "Giants" read "Wandering Monsters." As for

"If the campaign is designed for the good player, and there's no way for the evil players to progress (what a great idea - two directions for the campaign) . . .",

The Lost City of Ashra! and The Giant Grove of Utgar! can be taken together as the beginning of just such

The Divided City!

Well met!

This Map was produced by tearing down Sacrifice! to the Sand, and rebuilding. It was inspired, in part, by my vague impressions of an old comic book Conan story, post-Howard I believe, concerning a city-sized temple with 2 factions at war for generations, while, at the same time, hiding from some hideous monster behind their respective gates. If anyone remembers it, and can tell me its name, or can come up with a better name and/or a scenario for it, I'd appreciate it.

Nameless Map/Scenario

Well met!

[Why is it coming out bold? Is it just my machine?]

Having had a root canal (good dentist, difficult procedure) yesterday afternoon, I decided to do a free build, taking pictures as I went, and posting them in the thread for that purpose. However, using my wife's cell phone, after completing the Map, I accidentally deleted all the build up pics. I posted anyways, but it's not the same. Here's a copy:

"This was to be a display of the free building process, but I accidentally deleted the pictures prior to completion. After placing the start zones, I laid down all my Grass, then all my Rock (and the lava Field/Molten Lava), then all my Sand (and Trees), then all my Dungeon (except the 24-hexers), then most of my Road/Castle Ground, and, finally, Jungle, Water and Shadow (and Battlements). This Map has no name or scenario to go with it, although it is similar to Sacrifice! - A Journey to the Center of Valhalla in terms of being...

Sacrifice! - A Journey to the Center of Valhalla

Well met!

This is a Map without a scenario per se. My initial goal when I began free building this Map was to recreate the scene/terrain that James Mason and Pat Boone were in right before their escape from certain death in A Journey to the Center of the Earth. I started with the "Lava room," where they rode a giant bowl to the surface. But, as I built the hill leading up to the place where the bowl would have surfaced, it looked more and more like an Aztec or Mayan place for human sacrifices, thus the name - and thus the Map:

The Giant Grove of Utgar!

Well met!

[Any similarities between this scenario and The Lost City of Ashra! are purely intentional.]

The Giant Grove of Utgar!

In the wake of the devastation wrought by the invaders in The Lost City of Ashra!, most notably by the giant Hydras and the traitorous Jotun, Warriors from the far reaches of the Land have banded together seeking vengeance. And, at last, it seems they shall have it, as they have found a Grove sacred to Utgar, defended by Giants (although not the same Giants ). But even the Warriors of Ashra are not immune to greed . . .

The Map.
