Battle 6: Assault on the Orc Fortress

This is a battle summary for the game Heroes of ‘Scape

Battle 6: Assault on the Orc Fortress

When we last tuned in, we were following a group of Heroes venturing through a perilous mountain path. For now though, we turn our sights on a different group of Heroes. A small band of mercenaries has been hired by a village in dire need. A horde of Orcs have taken hold in a canyon fortress and are pillaging the village. In desperation the village hires a rag-tag team of adventurers to eliminate the Orcs and end the threat. A Dwarf Warrior, an Elf Archer, an Eladrin Wizard, and a Mindflayer Psionicist; will these champions be up to the task?

As the Heroes enter the canyon, the loitering Orcs spot the adventurers and take to action.

The Orc archers take to their post and get ready for the Heroes’ assault.

The angered Orcs are quick to assault the warriors; eager to the point of giving themselves the disadvantage.

A powerful lightning bolt from the Wizard is quick to toast the unsuspecting Orcs. As the Archer fires for support, the Dwarf Warrior rushes in to engage the charging Orcs.

An Orc raptor rider charges forward, supported by elite Orc warriors. With a forceful thrust of his spear, the Dwarf is injured.

The Dwarf Warrior takes the high ground and takes revenge on the Orc. A deadly blow of his axe puts a swift end to the mounted Orc.

While the Dwarf was preoccupied the heavily armored Orcs run past him and attack the softer ranged support. Meanwhile the Mind Flayer is sneaking around from the side, unleashing a Mind Blast at one of the Orcs.

Tied up with two Orcs of his own, the Dwarf can’t assist the Archer and Wizard, but they seem to be able to fend for themselves and the Orcs are quickly dispatched. Instead of helping his allies, the Mind Flayer decides to take a treacherous path that leads to the backside of the outward fortress where the Orc archers have taken post. The small path is difficult to traverse and a Sahuagin Raider is lurking in the waters.

Sensing the presence of the Sahuagin, the Mind Flayer assaults its mind through the trees, quickly felling the vile creature. The adventurers can’t leave the main path undefended, or the outraged Orcs would attack the village, so the Dwarf is left to defend the path by himself while the rest of the party sneaks up from the back side to take out the archer post.

The Dwarf is quickly engaged by frenzied Orc warriors, a whirlwind of blades swipes at the Dwarf, although their attacks come in number, their power is weak and the tough Dwarf easily blocks all the oncoming damage.

Once the other Heroes finish up the Orc archers, they lower the drawbridge and let the Dwarf across the river.

Having taken the outpost, the Heroes get ready to take on the main Orc army and their leaders who have made a fortress in the mountainside.

Having gain experience from their battles (I let them cheat their experience a bit). The Heroes gain a level and grow stronger. The Elf Archer decides follow a different path using his skill with the bow and arrow and become a Range, while the Dwarf Warrior through his prowess on the battlefield has been deemed a Warlord.

The Dwarf charges forward, ready to take the brunt of the attack by the Orcs, while the Ranger and Wizard fire at the Orcs from behind.

Tornak, an Orc commander rushes out from the cave and attacks the Dwarf Warlord, while some Orc warriors assault the mid-range Heroes.

Temporarily Enslaving Tornak, the Mind Flayer orders him to attack his own leader, the Orc General, Grimnak. The tactic was successful and Grimnak receives a wound.

The Dwarf charges up the cliffside and continues challenging the Orc underlings. The Eladrin steps in and launches a well timed Lightning Bolt, destroying three Orcs in one shot.

The Ranger and Wizard attempt to shoot down the pesky Orc archers who are firing from atop the cliff. The crafty Mind Flayer goes for another approach and Enslaves a weak minded Orc archer, forcing it to jump off the cliff to his doom. Easily the most priceless moment in the game

Angered, Tornak rushes back out from the cave and charges the Mind Flayer. With a successful pounce from his raptor and powerful thrust of his spear, the Mind Flayer is killed in a single attack.

The Dwarf Warlord takes revenge for his fallen comrade and fells Tornak.

With all of his minions destroyed, Grimnak charges forth from his cave lair. His enormous Tyrannosaurs Rex, which Grimnak is mounted upon, tries to eat the Dwarf as a tasty snack. Grimnak, however, was no match for the Heroes and the mighty general is toppled.

The Heroes have taken back the canyon and the village will be safe from the bloodthirsty Orcs…. R.I.P unnamed Mind Flayer

Next week we will continue the adventure of the Monk, Viking, Samurai Archer, and Divine Wizard. In order to put an interesting twist on the battle I will let you, the viewers, decide their fate

They just reached the base of the mountain when we last left them, so its up to you to decide what they find and/or what they do when they get there. They will be playing this Friday so this is your chance to create the most insidious scenario you can think of to put someone through, and not have to worry about the consequences

For those who are interested, here are the Heroes' powers:

That's a cool map, and looks like that was a fun assault. I think it's about time I get around to downloading the rules for this...

Sorry, I make all my map on the fly, so I don't ever record how I make maps. You'd have just as much luck as I would using the photos to recreate it.

Between the C3G and Classic Scape, I rarely get to play all the styles I want to play. I don't need another one I don't have time to play enough. Great job though!

If you don't have the time to play, I don't suggest you try it. Like Chardar said, you will get hooked If you ever find yourself with more time I sure hope you do give it a try though.

That IS a cool map.

I'm a bit of a noob so I don't understand just how you have modified the gameplay. What is the "style" you're referring to? It sounds interesting.

@ i_r_beej:

The game style is called Heroes of ‘Scape, its a custom mod that lets you play as a RPG-like Hero who can level up and gain new skills.
