Your New Years Resolution..go to a game convention!!

Posted December 14th, 2011 at 08:45 PM by Onacara
In 2012 I have plans to attend 7 game conventions..that's a lot. Now I know there are folks out there who actually attend more than that...but they are either in the industry or single.

I'm going to suggest that everyone attend at least 1 game convention in the upcoming year...you wont regret it.

Now I'm sure everyone here would love to go to GenCon but I also understand the cost involved with such an undertaking. That shouldnt stop you from enjoying the experience of a game convention.

There are thousands of small local conventions all over the US and the world throughout the year that would love for you to come by and have some fun. Granted there wont be a huge dealer hall...and the big game manufacturers won't all be there showing off their latest wares, but what you will find are other gamers who are more than happy to sit down and teach you a new game that they love to play or even play a game with you that you love to play that you don't get to the table enough at home. You may also be surprised to find that even though those big game companies do not have a fancy schmancy booth there...they may have representatives from their company there running demos and events. In fact two of the smaller conventions I attend are also attended by the folks from Z-Man Games..including Zev himself, and they are some great people who actually like the more laid back setting of the smaller conventions where they can just play games with folks and not worry so much about sales and semantics etc.

So make this resolution to get out there and game with some complete strangers this coming year for one day or a whole weekend...you can thank me later.

Burned Out...

Posted November 2nd, 2010 at 08:53 AM by Onacara
I'm taking a break from the site just in case you were wondering where I was.

I will pop in from time to time but probably will not be posting much of anything except for TotalCon XXV Updates and in the Secret Santa Thread.

Take it easy.

Full plate of work and fun....

Posted August 16th, 2010 at 01:21 PM by Onacara
So here I am sitting in Starbucks during my lunch hour from my regular job and feverishly read and reply to my emails rather than try and enjoy a break from work...why? Because I have a lot going on....

Besides my regular job and the family I am busy working on games for RacNRoll Gaming, as well as play testing games for a couple of other companies and designing 2 games for other game companies.

I think I am insane..but I am loving it...even though I have only slept about 20 hours the past week.

The problem with having all of these creative thoughts going through my head is that it spawns other creative thoughts that I have to fight to suppress. Ok I dont really suppress them...I write them all down in my ever growing stack of notebooks..but then need to put them aside..until another thought pops into my head like my own 3D Settlers of Catan board

This would be a heck of a lot easier if I could win the lottery and then get rid of the job that takes up such a large part of my time...I do like it...and I need it to live...but it does get in the way. :P

Luckily I have been able to get some help from a few extremely awesome people.

A few weeks ago I brought SparkleInYourWater on board as an intern and he has proven to be more valuable than words can say.

Thanks again to everyone who support us and for everyone who posts here who give me a smile during those tiny breaks I allow myself.

Game On!!

Scores of S'Mores

Posted July 28th, 2010 at 09:31 PM by Onacara
Ok so growing up in the Bronx we didn't get to BBQ much..and we never went camping...so I was deprived the delight of the chocolately gooey goodness of s'mores.

A few years ago after we had bought our current home..my kids asked if we could make them.

So I reluctantly said sure....they loved them...and I loved them and they soon became a summertime staple.

A couple of weeks ago after we had a birthday party for them with their friends where the s'mores were a'plenty I started thinking that there has to be a way to make this even better so I began experimenting....

First we changed the kind of marshmallows...

We tried chocolate marshmallows and they were good but weren't much different than the regular.

Then we tried coconut covered marshmallow...these were a bit tricky since the toasted coconut on the side catches fire easily...these were so-so and not worth the extra care it takes to toast the marshmallow.

Next we decided to change out the chocolate with...

Miniature Peanut Butter Cups...OH MY GOD I died and went to Heaven!!!!

Thin Mints...I liked them the kids didn't...oh well to each his own

Rolos....These ran a close second to the Peanut butter cups

Then we decided to swap out the graham crackers for...

Chocolate graham crakers....good but I like the regular graham cracker flavor.

Deluxe Grahams....these were pretty awesome but very messy

Finally we decided to add something else to the party....

Sliced bananas.....totally amazing.

We still have a few more "recipes" to try out...but if you are planning on making S'Mores any time soon...might I suggest
