Bacon Cheeseburger?

Posted November 30th, 2009 at 02:22 PM by Jexik
So yeah.

If Raelin is Bacon,

and Deathreavers are Parsely (or lettuce),

and Major Q9 is Cheese...

are 4th Mass/Stingers beef?

Great as a stand alone meal, but perfectly viable with this other stuff?

Is Isamu tomatoes? Special sauce?

D&D Heroscape Battle Report?!

Posted November 23rd, 2009 at 10:50 PM by Jexik
Some of you may wonder why I’ve been less vocal than I used to be in the numerous speculation threads surrounding D&D Heroscape. When I do butt in, I usually say something cryptic, like, “if Wave 9 and 10 are any indicator, I expect more good stuff out of MS3, Wave 11, and Wave 12.” Now I’m breaking my silence. I don’t expect more good stuff. I know that there’ll be more good stuff, because I’ve played it. It’s a blast and a half.

Earlier this year, I was brought on to help playtest new Heroscape stuff. A lot of people are worried that the new figures won’t fit well with existing Heroscape units, or that it’s not staying true to its roots. The designers and I thought it might be cool if I gave you a taste of the kind of thing you might be expecting out of the figures you’ll find in the new master set.

Customizing

Posted December 10th, 2008 at 01:44 PM by Jexik

I don't know whether it's the lull in official releases, or just my own familiarity with the existing figures, but I've become more and more interested in designing custom units myself.

Awhile back, I started a cardless customs thread to discuss my take on what Valgard's Dreadguls and father Ulrick should look like in Heroscape terms. I've begun posting more frequently in there, and I appreciate all of the feedback I've received so far. I've been making ideas to round out armies and fill perceived holes in them, and occasionally something that I just feel is cool.

I could still use someone to either point me in the direction of a good picture editing tutorial, or help me make cards. My main forays into the creative arts to this point are written or ceramic, and usually pretty abstract. I'm going to start by digging into this.

Today, I was going to put a huge post in the middle of my customs thread, but it was such a side tangent that...

The wait... it stings.

Posted August 26th, 2008 at 02:55 PM by Jexik
We've known essentially what was going to be in Wave 8 since last August. We saw all the cards by June. Many of us have multiples of everything now. And at GenCon this year...

We saw nothing.

No new figures.

No new cards.

No dates for new releases.

Just limbo.

I came to GenCon mostly to play, and to hang out with some of my best friends, and to see some other new games coming out.

After truth hinted that Wave 9 might be the best wave yet, it saddens and angers me to know that we might not see it, or that we might have to wait a very long time. This system that Craig Van Ness and his crew created just seems boundless in its possibilities, and it'd be a shame for it to die out.

Will DCI and the tournament scene make this game seem 'real' enough for the game-shoppers? Will kids still be necessary for its success? Can both groups be pleased at the same time while still...

Year in Review

Posted July 6th, 2008 at 12:26 PM by Jexik
So, I've now been playing Heroscape for just over a year, and I've been on this site pretty much from the day I played my first game.

Needless to say, I've played a lot more games since then, and started probably more threads than I should have. This community is great, and is a lot of what brings me back day after day, and continuing to play this game.

Right around GenCon of last year, I became really interested in competitive play. I scoured the battle reports and Joe's power rankings. Based on that, and my own play experience, I wrote that first order marker article. That one has even made it into the latest codex.

Most people probably don't know that I went on to write four more. OM II was a general survey of in-game order marker use, OM III was about unit design and what I felt were the holes in current units, OM IV was about how the roles can change based on a variety of factors. I even made something called OM V which asked whether...
