I've been making significant progress in the development of a new game based on Ancient Israel and surrounding nations. I have narrowed the scope (for now at least) to a two player game that will cover the time between the division of the Kingdoms (Israel & Judah) during the reigns of Jeroboam and Rehoboam and ending with the final Assyrian invasion that resulted in the fall of Samaria and the exile of the Northern Kingdom of Israel in 722 BC.

After much research I've pretty much finished the game map, which uses a point to point movement system and is a slightly abstracted, yet fairly accurate map of Israel, Judah, and the surrounding nations of Philistia, Phoenicia, Moab, Edom, Ammon, and Aram (Syria).

Time is marked by the drawing of King Cards, one for Israel and one for Judah. These cards list the name of the King, the dates of his reign, and the game impact of his reign. For example, some Kings fought specific campaigns against certain nations, some...

In our current big game the three of us; myself, and my two eldest sons, are playing as three factions each. One faction starts with a Capitol which generates 50 points per turn and has a ten-cylinder castle. The other two factions start with a small twenty point generating outpost.

Frequently in our big games confederations form and the Roman alliance was one of the first. Rome allied with Utgar and then with Nippon- our samurai drawer. The current map we’re playing on has a large ocean full of islands so most Roman expansion was in the islands. There was some minor skirmishing for some islands, mostly with the Vydar alliance, which resulted in a large scale invasion of the Roman homeland by Vydar.

The Vydar army first retook the Ullar lands, which had been conquered earlier by Rome. Vydar then took Nippon which is very close to Rome- one turn with quick marching. Utgar began sending reinforcements to the Roman Capitol as Vydar marshaled its...

I took very brief notes before or after each of my 22 matches at GenCon, so here's my attempt at recording the awesomeness of my gaming experience.


Thursday I played Capture the Flag with a team of Jotun, 10th x3 (last second decision over DCoT x4, Raelin, MBS, Ogre Pulverizer).

So much for picking Jotun and Co. over DCoT... My dice started out hot and 10th mowed down Dwarves forcing Q10 to come out. And then I couldn't hit him. At all. My opponent took control of Wannok, and Jotun moved to stop him. However, after Q10 blocked 3 skulls (out of 9 dice!), Dwarves killed Jotun in only 2 turns.
