What would you do to become a Site Supporter?

Posted November 1st, 2010 at 10:01 PM by BiggaBullfrog
First off, I'm new to this whole blog deal. There should be nothing to it, which probably means I'll get it jacked up beyond repair. But anyway...

I've got an interesting job--I hunt for cactus. Basically that means I hike through the desert all day looking at the ground. Thus, whenever we come across a pool of water, my co-workers will often bribe each other to wade across it for X amount of money, which varies depending on the size of the pond. The wading wouldn't be too bad if the water were clear, but I'm talking about stuff that looks like the chocolate river from Willy Wonka. No one ever went through with it, until now.

I've been kind of shakey with money lately (well, my whole life), but have wanted to become a Site Supporter since I became a member. This is a great site, and if there's something I can do to help it go, I'm all for it. Well, it clicked with me a little while ago that, were I to take my co-workers up on one of these pool-wading deals, I could use the money to support da site. And so, when we came across a sizable pond (about the size of an average house, and deep enough that you'd have to swim across), I waited until the money was offered, and jumped at the chance.

The offer was $35 to take a swim. I got it up to $40 to swim to the middle and completely submerge myself. The water was a bit more clear than normal, so I was fine with that. My boss took me up on it, so I took off my boots, threw my shirt to the side, and jumped in. The water was surprisingly cold, but I did it. I submerged myself in the middle, and came out with 13 toes and a third eye growing on my chin.

Okay, that's mostly bogus. We do offer money to get in the water, and I have tried to take said offers, but no one will ever go through with it. But, paycheck came, and seeing it was a nice amount, I figured I could spare a little to help this place (and maybe I'll get it back whenever my co-workers finally make a serious offer). Now that I've got these Site Supporter privileges, I wanted to make sure this blog thing didn't go to waste, and this seemed like a good first topic. I've got other (and probably better) things I might end up writing about, but this seemed like the best way to break in my blog. I know it's kind of long, but you took the time to read it. Not my fault.

Welcome aboard, and tell those wussy co-workers of yours to stand by one of their bets.

You want a real one? I've got a real one. And it actually kind of ties into this one, from a strange, demented perspective.

Well, I guess it's not so much hunting as much as finding and marking the endangered ones so they aren't built over. But hunt is a much cooler way to describe it. And we only go until it snows-probably two weeks now.
