Portals

Our cooperative multiplayer scenario

I have read lots of interesting posts about multi-player games. We usually have three players and frequently get tired of the 1 on 1 on 1 which usually becomes the 2 on 1 with backstabbing. So we have made a three player cooperative game we call Portals.

We’ve played this scenario quite a bit and always enjoyed it. Every time we win the scenario we cut down the number of points we start with. We’re down to 425 points each now- but we haven’t won in a while.

We build a rather big map with lots of heights, water, trees and bushes. Usually there’s a small castle for each of us. And then there are six portals, one for each of the summoning generals: a Jandar portal, an Einar portal, etc. We use duplo bricks for portals- they fit on one hex, they have six different colours and they give a height.

We spread about thirty treasure glyphs around the board; some are good things,...

Rorschape

If you’ve read through this great site you will no doubt have encountered this great blog post by the good Rev. Dyer:
http://www.heroscapers.com/community/blog.php?b=25
“What your army says about you.”

In it the Rev suggests that the Scape figures one chooses are archetypical and a person chooses them for subconscious reasons- eg. “Many times Jotun is drafted by short people who are trying to overcome their inferiority complexes.”

The Rev’s article is meant to be humorous (unless you’re a Minute Man or Soulberg boy) but I can’t help believe that it is really very true too. You are what you draft.

I’m sure lots of folks will scoff at the idea- after all you can draft whoever you want, whenever you want and sometimes it’s influenced only by how much you’ve had to drink.

When I examine my own army choices certainly there is a wide variety but there is also a pattern. I have my favourites and I return...

Gorn Forest Ambush Battle Report

Posted February 25th, 2010 at 11:13 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus
Life has been too busy and we haven’t been able to play for a week and a bit- so it seemed like we needed a big game to make up for it.

We built a large map for three of us and chose 800 point armies. The terrain was forest and swamp with a lot of little streams and some small hills, as well as a few castle ruins. Approximately 30 treasure glyphs were scattered throughout the land. Half the glyphs were nasty traps.

The goal for two players: begin in the starting zone, explore and uncover a Brandar and be the first to bring it into the end zone to win. The third player could begin anywhere on the map including hidden in trees but could not turn glyphs over. They’d have to “liberate” a Brandar and bring it to the end zone to win. No one wanted to be the third player who starts in forest so I accepted the challenge.

This was the playtest for our latest forest evolution- the trees are now numbered, and we have it set up so you...

Criminals

Posted February 19th, 2010 at 04:59 PM by Sylvano the Wasabus
Part 1) Our custom criminals
Part 2) A real Heroscape criminal

Part 1
Most of our Scape is customs. We couldn’t find the real juice and of course price was always a factor, so we ended up with a lot of DnD minis. I managed to sniff out a lot of them at crazy prices- I remember getting a case of the Night Below Boosters for $37 Canadian. We all sat around in the living room and took turns opening, like Christmas morning.

Over the last couple of years we have assembled a large amount of minis, but some of them, well- you know the ones? There’s always a couple that nobody wants and nobody likes for some reason or another. It’s usually that the sculpt is ordinary, or boring, or dull. Ugly is okay! Utgar loves ugly minis!

We ended up with a little pile, perhaps fifteen, of these misfit minis that nobody loved. We like making customs almost as much as we like playing Scape, so those misfits were...

This Month's Heroscopes

Posted February 18th, 2010 at 10:07 AM by Sylvano the Wasabus

After consulting with a mysterious psychic (my cat), some tea leaves (well it was more of a bag) and the stars (Angie Jolie was most helpful) I have managed to compile this list of Heroscopes for the coming month or so:

If you were summoned to Valhalla by Vydar

You’re not really sure what direction you’re heading. You always feel pulled in many different directions, but tend to play it safe. You think others are talking about you and maybe even plotting against you. You’ll buy D1 to show the others that you are with them but no one knows if you’re really going to open it when you get home.

If you were summoned to Valhalla by Aquilla

You may have trouble deciding between purchasing D1 and getting another tarantula. Both interest you and now that you think of it, wouldn’t HS terrain look good in your spider terrarium? A new love interest hovers; be careful not to show your teeth too soon and scare them off.
